The good news first:

The young guys on the OL looked much, much better today. I made it a point to keep an eye on them. Arkin will turn out to be a 10n year starter in this league. He just needs more time before he is ready. He took everything thrown at him by Brent, Igor and Lissemore. He got beat a time or two in the pass rushing drills, but not real badly. He won his share too.

Costa is also a scrapper, but I think he is no more than a back up. Not much room to grow. He is a bigger Cory Proctor. He played well today.

Tyron had a much better day, but keep in mind that he is going against some pretty good pass rushers in Ware, Spencer and Butler.

Even Blob boy (Holland) played better today, but you can tell he is exhausted by the time they get to team scrimmaging. He needs lots of conditioning work.

Once Free and Kozier get back, they will gel into a pretty good line. I think if Holland is starting when we get to the Detroit game we should sit Romo or risk losing him for the year! Suh will make Holland look silly!

The bad news:
Either we have the best WR's in the world or our secondary just plain sucks. I read some of the ESPN and DMN practice reports, and they were being nice in saying how bad the DB's looked today. We do have some great receivers, but come on!

In the one on one passing drills where the Receivers go against a DB, it wasn't close. Short, long and in between, the receivers had their way with the DB's.

Marty made AOA look really bad on his double move for a long TD. Dez, and Miles had long receptions over Newman and Jenkins. Even the backup receivers could do anything they wanted. Newman did Break up a pass to Dez, but it was under thrown, and it hit Newman in the back, he never turned around.

Church looked the best out there, but he still couldn't keep Witten from catching passes! Not many safeties have been able too!

Marty B looks really good out there, so does Ogletree. I think #14 is a keeper.

I think that Sean Lee is being over used. They have him chasing down kick offs before practice ever starts, and it will take a tool on him. He goes all out during these drills.

We may have a new kicker. Buehler had a couple of misses during the FG drills, plus the 58 yarder during the 2 minute drill. That one might have made it to the 5 yard line. Baily missed two also, but one of them clanked off the upright. It just seems, in the 2 days I have been there, that Bailey's kicks are always right in the middle of the uprights. You never know what you are getting with Buehler.

That's it for now!

heard on one of the espn chats that church came free on a blitz and if it were a game, "would have broken Tony's back." Can you shed any light on this, who missed the blitz pickup?

Someone in the chat asked if we should be worried about Tony's safety out there. I just hope he can make it past opening week behind this line. It's frightful.

Great stuff. Thanks!

Love hearing good things about Arkin.

Not to take anything away from Free (because he's great), but the line still sucked with those guys in there. They don't exactly instill piece of mind.

One thing to keep in mind.....and we do go through this every year....

Early in training camp, the offense is well behind the defense.

Timing, communication, blitz pick-up responsibilities.....takes a while. Plus, no mini-camps.....you can expect some ugliness.

Now, if we're still struggling this badly to block during our game vs the Broncos....I'd worry some.

It's the fourth day of practice, without OTAs, minicamps and three starters. I think you'll see a MUCH more competent group come 9/11.

The other side of the line was the real problem, even when holland was playing LG.

Thanks for the update. Don't read too much into the 1 on 1s. Those always favor the offense by a landslide. At any level.

Dallas cut their best pass blocking RB?

The blitzing is very successful on most plays. There would more than likely be a sack on most plays, but they play on. Ryan's scheme has been working very well on passing downs.

Today they ran the running offense against the running defense, and the offense was running the ball wide very successfully. Sure the blitz packages work very well, but if we can't stop the run, we'll never see those blitz packages.

I forgot to mention, at the end of practice, they ran a 2 minute drill. It took the first unit 2 plays to go 70 yards. A pass to Dez for about 20. Then the defense brought the blitz, Dez made a double move, and left Jenkins, jumping the first move and Dez 30 yards downfield for a long TD.

The second unit came in, and in two plays did the same, #14 took a long pass from the slot and out ran 3 defenders into the end zone.

yeah, the defense is coached to let the play execute unless you can't help it. This keeps injuries to a minimum.

.
A receiver shouldn't have time to make a double move on a blitz, so Jenkins did the right thing jumping in front of him. I think in this practice format the defense let's the QB make a throw every time.
