there is but 1 baseball player left from my childhood with the recent retirement of one of my all-time favorites, Craig Biggio. That leaves Roger Clemens, who ironically is my favorite college baseball player ever, and my original favorite player.....I wonder if he is gonna pitch till he is 60.
Once "The Rocket" calls it quits, all of the players from my childhood will be gone, well all the ones of any importance to me anyway.
As I have gotten older, and my favorites began retiring, my interest in baseball began to wane. Once Bagwell retired, I basically quit watching altogether. Biggio was the only reason I really even watched the Astros this year.
The Stros do have some nice young players ready to step in, but it just won't be the same without my two favorites of all-time. When I think of the Houston Astros, I think of Bagwell and Biggio.....even though I have been a fan of the team since 85.
I guess the strike in the mid 90s, the steroid scandal, and the fact that baseball doesn't really have a level playing field has caused me to lose total interest. Also, I am totally opposed to the DH, always have been. I hate the American League and every team in it. The DH rule is bogus and gimmicky. Get rid of it and make pitchers hit......either that or the National League needs to just add the DH and have the entire league use the same set of friggin rules for crying out loud. I despise Bud Selig. He is a horrible commissioner. He has caused baseball to lose so many lifelong fans with all his foolish decisions.
So when the Rocket goes, I am wondering if I will have any interest in the game ever again, maybe one day, when I have kids.....I just wish I had the same enthusiasm for the sport that I had when I was a child.........oh for those days.
