Kevin Kowalski

If he makes the team as a backup center, then he could be used as a blocking Fullback.

His short area speed and agility is almost identical to Shaun Chapas, yet he weighs 53 more pounds.

Kevin Kowalski
6'3-1/4"
300 lbs
10 Yrd Dash: 1.71
3-Cone Drill: 7.15

Shaun Chapas
6'2-1/8"
247 lbs
10 Yrd Dash: 1.71
3-Cone Drill: 7.13

The team could do that if it only wanted a blocking fullback. Garrett seems to value fullbacks who can block but also are a threat to run a dive or catch a pass out of the backfield.

Both Chapas and Gronkowski can do those things, even if their blocking isn't ideal.

The only problem is he probably won't be on the gameday roster.

Otherwise, he would be an interesting choice for goalline fullback.

Phillips can play that role. Neither FB has played well enough to keep. Practice squad them.

I don't think Gronkowski would be eligible. I agree on Phillips, but I think Garrett wants to keep a fullback.

This. I'd rather have Rucker over both of them.

Not with Benett injured. Phillips is now your full-time #2 TE. The Cowboys will need to carry a FB.

I don't think the FB is in when they go two TEs. It's usually an either one or the other. It just gives Phillips more playing time. Rucker could be used some at TE to give him a break if needed.

That could work, although, Phillips is coming off injury. I'd hate for them to stress that knee too much. I can see Phillips as an H-Back, which is like a hybrid TE/FB role.

The team has to decide if threy even want ot have a pure FB, or go with 4 TEs (Witten, Bennett, Phillips, and Rucker). In this case Phillips plays the H-bacl role. Not sure if Rucker can play that also ???? If so, then they very well may go 4 Tes and no pure FBs.

Even with MartyB out, John Phillips would be the FB in packages that use 1 TE and a FB. Kowalski would only be the FB on plays that used 2TE and a FB. It would be about 5 plays per game.

Do they really need to carry a True FB for 5 to 10 plays per game?

If Nagy starts over Holland, then Kowalski would be a better game day active because he can play both Guard and Center. Also, Kowalski could be part of the 2-man wedge on kickoffs whereas Holland would probably not be on special teams.

Having said all of this, Kowalski probably only makes the team if they cut Holland because Nagy can be the backup center.

this whole thing with linemen playing FB is generally just bad football -- they get out there and rarely know what to do -- just having the right size means nothing if you haven't played the position
