Very few people can plant their feet and change directions the way Deuce does. But he didn't have to change directions on this play. All he had to do was slow down and jump, like spiking a volleyball.
I agree. It was a catch he should be expected to make. The throw could have been better and resulted in a TD, but it wasn't as difficult as some of the throws we've seen where receivers are crossing the field at full speed and the throw is behind them, causing them to have to reach back for it. Not a super-high level of difficulty here, but a good catch for a running back.

uh oh.

Non-catchable passes for receivers
  • Thrown into the ground
  • Thrown above the apex of a jump (or dive) and fully extended outstretched hands
  • Thrown with too much velocity in front of the receiver, which the receiver cannot accelerate enough to intercept the path of the ball
  • Thrown with too much velocity behind the receiver, which the receiver cannot decelerate enough to reach behind to get his hands on the ball
  • Thrown into the body of the defender, referee or teammate situated in the path of the ball between quarterback and receiver
  • Thrown directly at a defender
Practically every other type pass is catchable. It is the job responsibility of the receiver to catch catchable passes, even difficult ones. Does not matter what level of football. Making exceptions only helps take the receiver off the hook for not doing his job.

Playing football should never equate as easy. That even applies to kickers' responsibilities.

If a 5'6" (that might be a tad bit of an exaggeration) running back is able to stop, plant, leap, adjust and haul in a high-and-behind pass, it is fully expected of you wide receivers and tight ends, who are paid to catch catchable passes, to routinely do the same freaking thing.

No excuses. Don't laugh when the ball goes through your hands. Don't clap in frustration after the ball ricochets off your paws into a defender's hands. Don't hang your head because your drop ended a drive.

Do. Your. Job. Be a playmaker.

It's pretty easy to explain to some of these people who don't understand but if it hits you in the hands or gets anywhere near a receiver where they can get their hands on it it should be caught, I mean not every one of them, no one's perfect but they shouldn't be clanking off a double hand cup.

However, if this fan base wants to keep over judging and get ridiculous with Prescott and those interceptions last year.

They don't understand the top ten highlight reels that you see on ESPN with the best catches, those crazy catches like OBJ made those are balls that great quarterbacks throw all the time. this is how the NFL works you cannot set your feet and throw a perfect pass on all snaps, receivers are paid to catch the ball and these highlights would never happen if quarterbacks all threw the perfect ball to the perfect spot every single throw.

It's just not possible, so yeah there would not be highlight reel catches if there weren't off target throws but they still were catchable... Why get a wide receiver or tight end 15 to $25 million a year if you were gonna throw the ball into their stomach every time I mean why would you need great receivers? Average receivers should catch those and they weren't even catching those last year but the ones where they gotta leap up a little or they gotta stretch out for that's part of their jobs as well..

Thank you for going on record as to in essence say that since every WR/TE/RB should make the catch if it is near them, seeing as that is what they are paid to do, then Dak should make every pass as that is what he is paid to do (thereby warranting any and all criticism for poor play).
