My Draft Take: Pass Rusher

Guys:

At this stage of the draft preprations, there's so much we don't know:Examples: Health of our injured players: Safety, Linebacker, Guard etc.

The health of these guys could influence the draft (all teams draft for need regardless of what they say). To me the first round pick is resevered for the following:QB, RB, WR, LT, CB, DT, or Pass Rusher. Exceptions include a truely outstanding player (Roy Williams). You don't draft a safety in the first round unless the guy is really a stud with no injury or off field problems.

For this year it appears that none of the guys likely to fall to us fit the catagory except WR and Pass Rusher (OLB). The WRs don't appear to really stand out (too small or have question marks) so the most likely prospect is a pass rusher. It's impossible for us to really evaluate the possible Pass Rush prospects because the teams know so much more than we do-we can only hazard a wild guess. Note: The only guy I saw put consistant pressure of the passer last year was Ware. Another stud pass rusher would really help the defense. Maybe those long passes that beat us wouldn't have been completed if we had a better pass rush.

My best guess is:Wimberly (I don't think Lawson will make it to 18). Possible trade down if we like someone like Anderson (Alabama).

Second round: best developmental OT.

Third round: best developmental: FS

Thoughts?

I think we'll go OLB, OL, and CB/Safety the first day.

Also, there was a poll on who we would take in the 1st round a day or two ago, and I guessed Wimbley as well. Just a hunch with Wimbley, as I think Lawson will be gone, and I remember we showed a lot of interest in him over the course of the last couple of months.

That said, I really don't care whether it's Wembley, Carpenter, Lawson, etc. As long as it's BP who's choosing the LB. I'm confident that when it comes to evaluating LBs, BP knows which guy will fit the system best.

If you post this well, 10 posts in 2 years just isn't enough. Very well thought out and presented. Post more. Please.

I'd only add that Carpenter does have apss rush capabilities, so having him equal with Wimbley on the draft board is not bad.

All 3 are very good character guys as well. Filling that need or goal has become important to me. Especially after last year.
