If Dallas follows past patterns, the team might splash on one signing if it feels someone is a long-term option for a position. Otherwise, the Cowboys will likely fill the following holes:

Starting-caliber running back

No. 2 quarterback

Cheap starting fullback

Rotational defensive end

Cheap starting 1-tech

Starting middle linebacker

Third cornerback

Looks like starting MLB is taken care of with McClain re-signing.

One down, six to go.

I don't expect any big name or top quality signings at all. However, they will sign multiple LBs that even the most diehard NFL fans has never heard of.

You're probably joking on the LBs (based on last year). I don't expect us to sign any other than McClain this year. Last year, we were looking for replacements for Durant, Carter and possibly McClain when we seemingly brought in any we could find standing on a street corner begging for work.

My expectations

1. Cowboys sign some trash in FA and make poor choices in the draft

2. The sheep on CZ applaud and hail all moves

3. 2016: 8-8 season

4. Hailed as "progress" from the 4-12 season

5. Rinse and repeat

I'm right there with you. What's the definition of crazy again? Oh, and don't forget the moral victories. "We only lost to the Steelers by a field goal!"

You forgot to add the line..."we couldnt believe they were still out there" to the signing of the LB's.

Come on...the cowboys resigning of ROLANDO really disheartened the league...they were chomping at the bit until 4pm today hoping he was still there.

I have the same expectations every year...clueless fans will wine about not dumping huge amounts of $ into free agents that rarely ever work out.

I think DAL has really fallen for the comp pick program. Now that they can be traded makes them even more valuable. They just need to get better at late round drafting because that is where most comp picks end up.

They let Hardy, Claiborne and a couple other of their 20 FAs walk and they can add some picks again. That is why they won't cut Carr or Church. They will squeeze out one more year and hope they get signed next offseason.

We will have preemptive whining and nashing of teeth by the usual.

It's pretty obvious what they are doing. They are just going to let the market shake out, see if any good players fall through the branches and then try to sign them to cheap deals.

So for example, they might like Forte, but they'll wait and see if he gets nowhere and then swoop in with a low ball offer.

If they were serious about being aggressive in FA, we'd have heard about restructures to Smith and Crawford and Bryant to create cap space since we sit at about $10MM right now.

Maybe that's a good strategy, maybe it's not.

But to me, when a team bargain shops in free agency you see it from teams that think they are close and need a tweak here or a tweak there. If that's the thinking of the Cowboys, that's a mistake. Their roster has too many holes to be filled just by some bargain bin shopping and the draft.
