If you don't want to read anything else in this thread just read the following blurb:
**After the game, the Giants' fans were devestated. My girlfriend had one of her CDs in my car, which happened to have the Jim Jones song "BALLIN" on it. I blasted it on my speakers with my windows down while driving through the Giants stadium parking lot on the way out, which had pretty much turned into a funeral service. Revenge!**
The love for the Cowboys has been passed down through my family, however until last night I had never seen them play in person! My girlfriend and her family are intense Giants fans (I know, how did that happen!?)... They are also season ticket holders. She invited me to the game, but wasn't too happy that I wore my TO jersey... Anyway on to the recap.
We got to Giants stadium at around 2:30 and there were a large minority of Dallas fans tailgaiting and bantering with the big blue faithful. I tossed a football around for a little while and had a bite to eat. A couple came up to me and said "Hey catch some passes today!" and also commented that they didn't like my jersey. Oh well, what a shame! :laugh2:
After entering the stadium and climbing to our seats in section 339, my girlfriend was asked "HEY WHERE'S JOE!?" (her brother who she usually sits with) "WHO'S THIS GUY!? YOU BROUGHT AN BLANKING COWBOYS FAN?" As soon as I took my jacket off I had a beer thrown at me from above, but only a little got on me. There were some idiot fans, especially this one woman who was there with her father. All I heard from her was "Romo sucks, Julius Jones sucks, TO sucks, etc..."
The majority of the Giants' fans (even the ones who had more than one too many drinks) were friendly and we went back and forth at each other in a joking manner. I can't really complain about being surrounded because there were a few Cowboys fans around me that I exchanged high-fives with over the course of the game. Although I don't think we played up to our ability, going to the game was a great experience.
Thoughts on what happened on the field:
Marion Barber seems to be developing into more than anyone could have expected...
Tony Romo didn't have a great game in terms of stats, but he made some great throws and that last drive in the 4th was very reassuring of his ability. Although the Giants didn't have Strahan, they still have a pretty good D-Line and I think Tony did a great job rolling out and making time to find an open target.
Although Gramatica made a clutch kick to win the game (which Vandy would have probably sailed wide right) I think it would be in the Cowboys best interest not to put him in that situation. (His first kick was horrible)
I get most of my insight on the Cowboys from browsing this forum and Bobby Carpenter looked a lot bigger than I thought he was based on some posts I read on here.
Jeremy Shockey is probably one of the most overrated players by Giants' fans, but he also seemed to be the toughest for the Cowboys to cover. He got the best of Roy & others for the majority of the game, but there was one play where Roy drilled him like a heat-seeking missle. (Of course all the Giants' fans cried about DPI, but it was a clean hit)
DeMarcus Ware is a defensive playmaker and his big tackle on Jacobs took the wind out of the Giants sails on the 4th&1 gamble. It seems like the Cowboys have a quick defense, but a guy like Jacobs can plow right through. Seeing Ware take him down impressed me a lot.
I was surprised that we couldn't get to Manning more than we did, but as I mentioned above that may be a result of our defense having more agility and quickness than raw power.
Either we have a really good return team or the Giants have a terrible one. I haven't paid enough attention to that to come to either conclussion, but it seemed like we started every drive (off of a kick-off) on at least the 30-35 yard line.
There are some other things I could mention and certainly some key points I missed. It was hard to pay attention to everything when you're watching live. Again it was a great experience and I look forward to seeing the Cowboys march into the playoffs!:starspin
