Former Youngstown State defensive end Derek Rivers left a lasting impression at the NFL Combine.

It figures to be remembered at the NFL Draft next month.

Among players at his position, Rivers earned four “top performer” grades during the drills – he was third with a 6.94-second clocking in the 3-cone drill, fourth with a 4.61 run in the 40-yard dash, tied for fourth with 30 reps in the 225-pound bench press and tied for fifth with a 35-inch vertical jump.

As a hog fan that watched him a lot, I have no doubt he will thrive in the right system as a slot, Wes Welker type and possibly better.

King has a reputation for slow top speed [at least I read that somewhere], ya I like this draft

Don't get all the King/Budda love at 28....don't get me wrong, I like the players but is Rod really going to slot 1 of those 2 in at SS in his system? I don't see it...we're going to be looking at bigger, better tackling safeties, whether we all like it or not.

I like this mock. Would prefer a trade down to pick up another third or four. I think you left out TE. This is the perfect draft to pick up Witten's successor. But other than that, good job.

Cowboys Draft: DE Derek Rivers Proves He Is Worth A First Round Pick

Youngstown State defensive end Derek Rivers is quickly becoming my favorite choice for the Dallas Cowboys first round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

At the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, Rivers further cemented himself as a real prospect with a chance to be a solid professional player for a long time. Rivers, who finished the 2016 season with 14 sacks and 58 tackles, ran a 4.61 40 yard dash this weekend, fourth amongst defensive linemen.

While some have questions about Rivers’ power and game strength, his 30 bench press reps of 225 pounds was also the fourth highest for his position group.

this guy might end up as our first pick
