Would you rather have Coleman, Ajayi or...Adrian Peterson for a 2nd.

See Ive come to the rationalization that we are in a 2 to 3 year window... so yes I would take A.P because I understand after our window we will be in a rebuild mode until we find out next QB...

and lets not forget how long that took after aikman retired till Romo came out of nowhere to bring us out of the depths of suckage

Hell NO !
I'm done with giving up draft picks, we short ourselves every year when we do this .... Coleman in the 2nd and I would be perfectly happy. Corner/DE in first, Coleman in 2nd. And DT in third - then I'm a happy chap !

I think that would be a big mistake, Yes one day we will have to replace Romo and I would hope the new QB when that happens can join a team who is strong across the OL who have very good weapons that will help him out greatly. Basing all on Romo in my view would be a big mistake. Romo clearly has a window the Cowboys do not unless they are foolish enough to do things short term

When Romo retires, how long will it take to find a Franchise QB? Keep in mind that Jerry Jones has never Drafted a Franchise Quarterback.

I don't know I do know putting a young QB behind garbage is not the solution. I think trying to shoot for 2 or 3 years all or nothing is a mistake and in the end there are no sure things of winning the SB in the next 2 to 3 years. Jerry drafted a franchise QB his name was Aikman and towards the end of Aikman's career Jerry went out trading picks paying out big money for 1 more chance that never happened. We got to the point (since there was no rookie cap) we could not afford to pay out what top rookie QB were getting, we settled on a deal with Carter who came at a bargain price, we then brought in other QB at bargain prices that is why Hutchinson was here, that is why Henson was here that is why Leaf was here, why Vinny was here and Bledsoe was here because that is all Dallas could afford guys who could play at a low cost. I don't want to make the mistake again. I love Romo but Romo is not the Dallas Cowboys and I don't think shooting it all on 1 guy is a smart move. I would not give any top picks to Minn for a 30 year old RB that would be foolish

Well, technically, he drafted Troy Aikman.

Okay.....he hasn't drafted a Franchise QB since 1989. That's 26 Years.

How many more years will it take to get a Franchise QB in Dallas after Romo retires?

4-5 -6- 10- 26 more years? Because the drop off in winnable games will be tremendous.

I have no idea. I was simply pointing out that technically, the Cowboys have Drafted a Franchise QB.

I don't know, they may draft a QB in the next year or 2. Maybe Bryce Petty gets selected and pans outs. In the mean time how does anyone know getting AP giving up picks and paying out big money to a 30 year old back will get Dallas a SB. It was stupid moves like that in the past that has hurt Dallas

To be completely fair, it's a bit disingenuous to say it's been 26 years. Troy retired in 2000 I believe so really, I think it would be fair to start the clock from then. Truth is, we haven't really given ourselves much of a chance to draft a franchise QB. We picked up Tony in 2003 and I think since maybe 2005 on, the team didn't think they really needed to draft a franchise guy. However, since 2000, I think we've only drafted two QBs at all.

Quincy Carter 2nd Rd 2001
Stephen McGee 4th Rd 2009

I think that's it.

Provided that money is ok and Peterson isn't killing our salary cap then a 2nd rounder for Peterson is a no brainer to me. We can speculate on how good this RB draft class maybe but reality is that no one know how any of them may turn out. Draft is a lottery.

We don't know how Peterson will do, his last full season he got 1,200 well down from the 2000 yards and now even older. As much as some do not want to hear it AP is not immune to age and it's affects. People are living off his past and Dallas should not be giving up future picks for a 30 year old player.

If Adrian Peterson would take a 4 year, 4 million dollar deal then the answer is obvious.

But he's going to command big money, whereas the 2nd rounder will be making peanuts.

It's more like would you rather have Coleman/Ajayi/etc. on the cheap for 4 years & a couple of quality FA's (whatever money AP would be making)

or

AP

I would not give him 4 years. If Minn releases him and he would agree to a 2 year deal fine he would be hitting 32 years old at that point. In terms of pick unless it is a 6th or 7th no way would I give up on any of my top picks for an older player. I think AP in his prime was one of the best to play the game but I'm not going to live off past memories.

I wouldn't give him 4 years either. I just said 4 years/4 mil because that's roughly what our 2nd round pick would make.
