My initial reaction to Davis was to cheer

then I started reading about his lack of desire and work ethic. I couldn't tell you I watched Davis play a lot for Arizona and I don't think many of you could say you did either. It is Arizona for crying out loud, but most scouts and writers think that this was another free agent mistake by Dallas. Arizona's OL stunk and they didn't want to franchise Davis or even seem to make an honest attempt at re-signing him. That should tell you something.

Most players don't discover desire and a stronger work ethic 6 seasons into their careers. Could Steinbach have been had for the same type of money? I don't know, but Jones always seems to be looking for a deal in free agency. Don't pay for Vinatieri, go cheaper with Vanderjerk. Don't pay for Wahle, go cheaper for Rivera. Pay for the Fabinini's and the Wiley's, even the flawed T.O.s of the NFL but never pay for the best. The best don't get discounted. Hutchinson dollars last year don't look so bad now!

You have to admire Jones' desire to win if not his methods. Personally, I would have rather sit out free agency than overpay for an underachieving offensive lineman. I hope I and all of the other naysayers are wrong about Davis because I think Dallas is real close to being a superbowl contender. I hope I am wrong about Jerruh the G.M. but I don't think so.

Lastly this must really screw around with Columbo. Marc played reasonably well for Dallas last year and you know Dallas is not going to come close to that type of money for him. I think that contract puts Davis at RT not guard where he has reportedly not played as well. It certainly is T money.

Crazy beginning to free agency, wasn't it? The overpayments were predictable, with teams entering the signing period averaging $14.95 million of cap room. The craziest things happened at guard, where three above-average players leapfrogged into the contractual Hall of Fame. Derrick Dockery jumped from Washington to Buffalo for seven years, $49 million last Friday, then Eric Steinbach went from Cincinnati to Cleveland for $49.5 million over seven, and Sunday, Leonard Davis (you'll be sorry, Jerry) skipped from Arizona to Dallas for $49.6 million over seven - Peter King Sports Illustrated

I have to say, I'd prefer Steinbach to Davis- I'll give the big lug the benefit of the doubt, but, we'll see.

If he plays RT instead of LT, he'll be much, much better off. RT is a complete different thing than LT and you don't need nearly the mobility for that spot. Just imagine Columbo at LT for a second.

Still, I'd rather resign Columbo and play Davis at RG.

You can blame Jerry if you want..but he is cleaning up Parcells mess of the offesnive line...Parcells built this team AND blew our draft picks on those POS offensive lineman...it was bad enough they couldn't play up to their draft status..but the fact they could not play at all is just dumbfoudning....what is Jerry supposed to do?

I don't take anything that the Arizona Cardinals do as a sign of anything good or bad.

I'm not sure that I could maintain a high desire and motivation playing for the Arizona Cardinals. Lets just hope a change of teams sparks something in him or maybe one of our coaches can get in his head and really get him playing well.

I will give you the offensive line part of Parcell's legacy in Dallas, but do you remember the team that he inherited from GM Jerry? It was drafting in the top 10 for a reason. No talent on the team he received whatsoever. Jerruh pinned his hopes on Carter, Hutchinson, then the NY Yankee QB, lol.

Jones the GM has stunk up to this point. I hope he learned his lesson, but I doubt it.:star:

I don't qualify as a Parcell's basher or backer. But the O-line problem is his fault, more or less. He brought in draft picks and free agents that sucked. Plain and simple, couldn't coach them up either. If we can ink Colombo, I'll feel better about the whole thing, but I've been posting for days that I hope Sparano or Wade or JJ can motivate Davis. Lots of potential but..................

Even though some might disagree...I am not a Parcells basher...but I stand firm that 4 years is long enough to have at LEAST given us 2 long term players along the OL...considering what we spent in free agency and in draft picks...so if that is calling me a Parcells basher...hey, I'll take it
