Watch this video. This has always been my concern with Parker. Building from the back to the front.

If that's his philosophy I'd fire his *** yesterday.

If it was as simple as copying someone else's defense and ideas, i think any of us could be a DC as well.
I am sure Coaches will add or remove parts of a system. But they will normally keep the base and philosophy of what they learned from an accomplished Coach. Just natural.

We have spent and added to the front.. Check out the salaries of Gary, Clark, Williams, we spent a first on a DE, we brought in Miller.

So no.. He isn't building back to front. He is reinforcing the back since the front isn't doing it.

The best coaches adapt their schemes to fit the personnel they were handed. But that takes creativity and requires some critical thinking skills.

I agree with you that I would also build the offense and defense starting with the lines then the quarterback and pass rushers after that.

I have always thought the best cornerbacks are sets of cornerbacks, not individual cornerbacks.

It's why I don't want to draft cornerbacks in first couple of rounds nor do I want to trade #1 or #2 picks for them.

While it's great to have a top 5 cornerback on your team, that player is one injury away from dropping you from a solid defense to worst in the league.

What I want are a set of 3 solid cornerbacks that can play man, always stay within 1-3 yards of the receiver they are convering and most importantly tackle aggressively (not chase tackle).

I am also more concerned with PBUs over interceptions because PBUs can happen every game while interceptions are random and spread out and many happen from tipped passes or receivers running the wrong routes.

Having 3 solid (not great, but solid) cornerbacks makes your defensive backfield hard to beat consistently downfield.

For 30 years, the Cowboys have relied on pash rush to create mistakes for the secondary to capitalize on but there is one weakness with that concept and it has cost the Cowboys many of those failed 30 seasons when they ran up against it.

That weakness is a great offensive line or at least great offensive line blocking game plan.

That's why Quinn's defense was so hit or miss. When they got pressure, they got turnovers and the defense looked awesome. When they failed to create pressure, teams scored easily and often.

I said during off-season that it would likely take half a season for Parker to get this defense working (assuming he could/can of course).

That said, if its true that his focus is on coverage-first then they should have put a lot more focus on improving the secondary and its depth than they did.

They should have also picked up at least one solid pass rusher (and Gary was never that).

Most coaches are handed players they want that will work well within their systems. They might start working with what they got but will try to get the types of players that will work with their system.

Tuna came in and changed the base from a 43 to 34 and used two first round picks to help the change over with Ware and Spears.

As much as some fans want to make all things black or white. Truth is most stuff has a grey area.

If he doesnt improve in the next 4 games imma assume hes a paid assassain from Philly

Yup, like Bellychickens said: "You can never have enough CBs." Belly, BTW, refused to pay his CBs. He knew exactly what you're saying, better to have 3-4 decent ones than one stud.

Not saying CP is a fraud, but it is concerning the lack of DB development early….very early and we do need to keep that in mind.

If you’re a DB specialist you would think you’d build the front end up and focus on development of young guys and mid tier FAs on the back end. Now we have an early 1st used on downs, our top free agent activity was multiple safeties, and now we are making a splash move for JPJ…and somehow still feel extremely thin at DB.

CP has a fantastic history of player development, but has also been given a plethora of high draft picks to work with in both Denver and Philly. Just something to keep an eye on.

Plus, Revel was coming off an injury in college, and the rook Moore has always been injury prone.

And that needs to stop. No more injured/injury prone guys.

Many of us have been begging Jerry to buy talent like the other 31 teams do.

And surprisingly he has. However, if an Edge Rusher of a high caliber isnt available it shouldn't preclude the "GM" from taking another position of need if the opportunity arises.

If this defense was a player or two away from being complete, id understand the criticism.

The only position on defense that "shouldn't" need upgrade is at DT......every other spot is fair game to upgrade

You are dead to me.

I have always been a proponent of building your offensive and defensive lines first before you even start adding the talent behind them. And this is even more important on defense. Any good NFL QB can pick you apart if given time. Hoping CP is no idiot, but at this time Dallas really needs to be able to apply pressure. Scheming how to do this will be the key if CP is a fraud or not.
