My Keys to the Game

In all seriousness, here are a few points of discussion as we are now under 3 hours from kickoff.

  1. Field Position: arguably the biggest key to the game, in my opinion. David Buehler and Mat McBriar will go a long way toward deciding this game. If we can put the Vikings in a position with a long field and our coverage units can consistently get down the field and make solid tackles, we'll set up our defense for great success.
  2. Edge Rushers: DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer are going to need to generate good pressure if they aren't getting sacks. This will flush Brett Favre out of the pocket, which will free up the offensive line and hopefully make it a footrace to the sidelines with guys like Ware, Spencer, Ratliff, Spears, Bowen, Olshansky, Brooking, Carpenter, James, & Hatcher all in pursuit (depending on what defensive package it is). Favre also doesn't throw very well on the run - lets force some interceptions! Which brings me to...
  3. CB Play: We're pretty certain by this point that Mike Jenkins is going to do this thing out there, and Terence Newman matches up well against the Vikings other WRs due to his faster speed; the X-factor in the passing game then becomes Percy Harvin. Will Scandrick be able to effectively defend the slant and deep in routes against Harvin? It remains to be seen, but I feel pretty good about help over the top from Sensabaugh and Ken Hamlin, both of which have been playing lights out ball the last couple of weeks.
I didn't mention the offense because I personally feel it's irrelevant. The Vikings don't blitz well, which means Romo should have plenty of time to find Williams, Witten, Crayton, Phillips, or Austin (save the best for last!) running around out there. The only thing that the lack of blitz might negate is our freeze-draw, which works so well against the blitz. I expect to see lots of counters and misdirection plays to the edges with Felix, though, as the Vikings are not very good at defending the edges.

Other than mentioning the Buehler and keeping Harvin from returning kickoffs, I think you nailed it here.

Thanks. Must not be enough bad grammar or polarizing statements made here because it's sliding down page 1 fast :laugh2:
