WR: Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Austin, Hurd (5)

TE: Witten, Fasano, Hannah (3)

OT: Adams, Columbo, Marten, Free (4)

G: Davis, Kosier, McQ (3)

C: Gurode, Procter (2)

Offense: 24

K: Folk (1)

P: McBriar (1)

LS: Ladeuceur (1)

ST: 3

DE: Spears, Canty, Hatcher, Bowen (4)

NT: Ferguson, Ratliff, Stanley (3)

OLB: Ware, Spencer, Carpenter, Glymph, Obomese (5)

ILB:Ayodele, James, Burnett, Phillips (4)

SS: Williams, Davis (2)

CB: Newman, Henry, Thomas, Reeves, Brown, Butler (6)

I think Ellis gets cut or traded, as does Aaron Glenn, Stanback's foot keeps him out long enough that we IR him.

Agree with much of your effort but here's a few I don't:

1. Hannah not showing enough to make roster; he'll make the PS so we carry only 2 TE on roster
2. Proctor is getting reps only at OG; not backing up Gurode whose backup is probably Tarilek (sp?) which means we carry 10 OL
Total Offense: same as yours - 24
3. Ratliff will primary be DE & doubt Bowen makes team. If Stanley and others don't show enough as backups to Ferguson, Ratliff could step in or we could sign a FA DT for a year.
4. Think A.Glenn still makes team unless Thomas really steps it up because of Henry's questionable play at best so far this TC.

We don't need Bowen. Ratliff can play NG and DE. That's a wasted roster spot IMO.

And I like keeping battle, but we have to find a way to keep TT too.

Also, Stanback's foot is fine. He's missing practice cuz of Shin splints. I could see it now... "Cowboys place Stanback on IR due to severe... shin splints"

I could actually see it happen though.

I think we keep Thompson over Battle for his kick return ability. I also don't think Hannah makes the team, which opens a roster spot for Stanback. And I don't think we get rid of a veteran (Gramatica) for a rookie (Folk) ... I wouldn't put the fate of a team that is so close to being special on the foot of a rookie. Our coverage unit did fine last year on kickoffs, even with Gramatica's short leg.

Six CBs seems heavy. I'd like to see Elam make the roster again, and would probably cut Butler to keep him. I think Nate Jones replaces Reeves at CB, and Glenn replaces Thomas. AG just makes too many plays, and who out of the rest of the CBs would you want to replace Henry (or Heaven help us, Newman!) if he gets injured?

I think Ellis works things out and stays, and that Spears/Ratliff work at DT some in nickle situations, so we don't need to keep three at NT.

So I have it as:

QB: Romo, Johnson (2)

RB: Jones, Barber, Thompson (3)

FB: Hoyte, Anderson (2)

WR: Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Austin, Hurd, Stanback (6)

TE: Witten, Fasano, (2)

OT: Adams, Columbo, Marten, Free (4)

G: Davis, Kosier, McQ (3)

C: Gurode, Procter (2)

Offense: 24

K: Gramatica (1)

P: McBriar (1)

LS: Ladeuceur (1)

ST: 3

DE: Spears, Canty, Hatcher, Ratliff (4)

NT: Ferguson, Stanley (2)

OLB: Ware, Ellis, Spencer, Carpenter, Glymph, Obomese (6)

ILB:Ayodele, James, Burnett, Phillips (4)

SS: Williams, Davis, Elam (3)

FS: Hamlin, Watkins (2)

CB: Newman, Henry, Glenn, Jones, Brown (5)

Defense: 26

Thompson makes it over Battle since Thompson is having just as good of a camp as Battle, plus he returns kicks really well.

Austin I am shakey about, not sure if he makes the team, if it comes down to Stanbeck and Austin I think it will be Stanbeck. Austin hasn't shown a whole lot as a reciever and there is no way he beats out Hurd.

Hannah makes the PS he needs to learn to block.

Ellis is going no where so one of those OLB's may drop off. Do we really need 9LBs?

Glenn is here no matter what. Elam and Jones will probally stay also.

It will come down to the last preseason games for several of these positions.

I was going to post mine, but after reading Hostile's, there was no point. Its the same exact thing.

The only thing I quesiton on Hostile's (and mine as well) is whether or not Wade feels comfortable with only 6 DL.

Maybe we keep a 7th....
Maybe we keep a 3rd QB...

I think we'd be ok with 6 DL (we could always go to a 4-3 God forbid, if injuries arose during a game....making Spencer/Ware as DE's and sliding Canty/Spears inside if needed).

But I think a 3rd QB (Moore) could be retained and is possible (Please let Folk beat out Grammatica).

The 6 DL thing was the only thing I hesitated about too. I almost removed Gramatica and added Bowen.

I don't believe Hannah is on the 53 but will be on the PS...
Hoyte over Anderson but Anderson on 53 or PS
Just don't think we can keep 6 WR's Miles is probably odd man out
We are keeping the backup center I forget his name right now (proctor has been playing guard not center)
I think Brown is your backup fs and watkins is out and butler is kept as a CB

Folk has been having a solid camp and outshined Grammy last practice according to DC.com. Let's hope it continues.

RB: Jones, Barber, Thompson, Battle (4)

Thompson's having a great camp and led the league in KO returns in '06 before his injury. We keep four TBs going into week one.

FB: Hoyte, Anderson (2)

WR: Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Stanback, Hurd (5)

I had thought we'd keep six WRs. Austin has all the measureables but just can't seem to put it together. Stanback has a lot of talent. You don't IR a guy for shin splints. He'll get his chance.

TE: Witten, Fasano (2)

Hannah to the PS. We'll keep a total of five TEs and FBs, and right now Anderson is a better player than Hannah. He's a great special-teamer

OT: Adams, Columbo, McQ, Marten, Free (5)

McQ is practicing at both tackle positions. He'll be the primary backup on either side and be well in the mix to replace Flo at LT next season. Free and Marten are both showing promise and going nowhere.

G: Davis, Kosier, Procter (3)

Procter isn't practicing at C and by all accounts has been looking good at guard.

C: Gurode, Berger (2)

Berger has been practicing at C and the coaches have been high on him.

Offense: 25

K: Folk (1)

I thought there was no way Folk would make the team. Gramatica was solid last year and we aren't keeping two kickers. But if Folk continues his impressive work, he'll be the man. If the bless-ed Pats can do w/a rook PK, why can't we? Mort Andersen and Adam Vinatiari <sp> were rookies once.

P: McBriar (1)

LS: Ladeuceur (1)

ST: 3

DE: Spears, Canty, Hatcher, Ratliff (4)

Bowen's not shown anything so far to suggest he'll make the team and Ratliff may play the nose in some situations but he's primarily a DE.

NT: Ferguson, Stanley (2)

OLB: Ware, Spencer, Ellis, Glymph (4)

Ellis is going nowhere. Obomese to the PS.

ILB:Ayodele, James, Burnett, Carpenter (4)

Carp is versatile and will move around a lot, but his position is inside.

SS: Williams, Davis(2)

FS: Hamlin, Watkins (2)

CB: Newman, Henry, Glenn, Thomas, Reeves, Brown (6)

Glenn isn't going anywhere til next year. Brown is showing himself to be a pretty darn good cover guy but doesn't tackle well enough to play safety. Thomas is looking extremely good and Reeves is solid and experienced.

Defense: 24

That leaves one roster spot that will probably come down to Austin or Elam.

No love for Adam Bergen as the 3rd TE? Here's a 3rd year player who had actually started in the league - granted it was for Az but still.

Take a bow, sir.

I shall now call you KS from now on. KS, of course, referring to Kicker Scout.

_________

This is great news, really. We have a chance to develop a young Kicker AND keep him in our system. No more going out in FA trying to find an elusive Kicker and Punter. We've got the P, and if Folk continues like this and continues to improve, we may have nailed our Kicker (sorta pun was indeed intended).

I really hope this continues and Folk legitimately beats out Grammatica. I'd rather carry one Kicker on the roster, and if that one Kicker is doing better, its a younger, cheaper option at that position and would solidify us for the long term as well as the immediate future.

My latest crack at 53
QB: Romo, Johnson (2)
I agree with this, either Bartel or Moore will be on practice squad

RB: Jones, Barber, Battle (3)
I agree with this, Tyson Thomson I see getting traded

FB: Hoyte, Anderson (2)
I agree

WR: Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Austin, Hurd, Stanback (6)
I think the cowboys might put stanback on pup for first 6 weeks, unless he really comes on in preseason, but he is losing valuable time, thats why i see us keeping only 2 TEs, with 2 Fullbacks

TE: Witten, Fasano, Hannah-(practice squad, he has way to much to learn in blocking ) (2)
Only way Hannah makes it, he shows way too much in receiving and high jump balls, to not make practice squad;

OT: Adams, Columbo, Marten, Free (4)
I agree

G: Davis, Kosier, McQ (3)
I agree!

C: Gurode, Procter (2)
I agree!

Offense: 24

K: Folk and Gramitica, Phillips related again to keeping a kickof specialist, the (2) the surprise here could be the 2nd punter, they have had him kicking off too, if that happens, folk and he would be kickers, gramitica cut or you might see that punter S something, traded if he does good in punting and some team needs a punter if their punter gets hurt in preseason

P: McBriar (1)

LS: Ladeuceur (1)

ST: (4)

DE: Spears, Canty, Hatcher, Bowen (not srue about bowen, but leave im here for now (4)

NT: Ferguson, Ratliff, Stanley (3)

OLB: Ware, Spencer, Carpenter, Glymph, Greg Ellis, I think and remember reading that Ellis will be moved sometimes inside to DT on pass rushing obvious downs (4)

ILB:Ayodele, James, Burnett, Phillips or Odes... one of them, (4)

SS: Williams, Davis (Elam might make it here )(3)

FS: Hamlin, Watkins, Courtney Brown, has made some good plays at FS (3)

CB: Newman, Henry, Thomas, Reeves, Glenn (5)

Defense: 26

That makes 54 players, so either going with 1 kicker, or trading a WR, or Elam which is most likely wont make the team, i do see us keeping 2 kickers if Gramitica makes it, if he doesnt, then just one kicker with Folk, and the backup punter doesnt make it, but gets traded.

i do think also, if you look at this roster, we are finally fully loaded, now it hard for to cut players, due to having good players on our team.

I do think that Greg Ellis will go to another team next year, since his salary goes up, and you have to pay romo and newman soon. Then, also I think aaron glenn will be his last year in dallas, and so will julious jones, with flozell adams being released, that makes room for 4 players next year, thats why i possibly see the cowboys if they get McFadden rahter easllily without giving up too many draft choices, we then package some of our other # 1, 2, 3 or 4 picks and take another impact player, possibly at wr, if stanback has trouble staying healthy.

then on practice squad, hannah and bartel or moore at qb makes the team, that leaves like 2 more spots for mcfadden and a imact player at wr or nt.

then, this team is reallly set for 4-5 years to make a run at a superbowls.

remember now, jerry jones said that he thought about packaging # 1, 2, and 3 picks to get an impact player, he did look at moving up into top 10 in the nfl draft, but cost too much. so i see us possibly doing that next year.

then with compensation picks, if we dont sign any top free agents next year, we should get 2 # 3 picks in compensation draft picks for julius jones and flozell adams, those could be used for a young cb, or backup NT, since fergueson isnt getting any younger, so i see this team going somewhere if not this year, next year, look out,

I forgot to put ball in there somewhere at cb, if he does, reeves might not make it, due to salary cap, with rookies costing less than 4 year vets like nate jones and reeves.
