Truthfully,......in my opinion it isnt all that unrealistic either. For far too long we have let this O line linger in futility. Not only do I want an O line with some talent to it,.......I want an O line with ALOT of NASTY in it.

Here goes

Left Tackle.....Tyron Smith

Left Guard......Chance Warmack. Draft rd 1

Center.....Phil Costa

Right guard....Matt Slauson . FA

Right Tackle...Sebastian Vollmer. FA

so 4 really good to great players and one dud.

Please no more Smith at left tackle. He's been awful. Move him back to right.

I don't about awful but definitely a lot worse than he was last year at his natural position.

Draft an LT in the first round, move Smith back to RT, take the cap dead weight by cutting Free, keep Parnell as the swing tackle. Bring in one non-scrub FA on the interior and draft another.

Gotta tell ya,.......NOBODY has been on hard on Costa as I have the last couple of years. BUT......I have to admit that in the limited time he has played this year he has looked outstanding. His game against Baltimore was off the charts in my estimation. Certainly better than any other center we currently have on our roster.

Besides.....cant fix it ALL in one offseason....LOL

No way Jerry bites the bullet on Bernardeau and Livings. They were his guys...he's going to ride with them.

That is certainly a comforting thought.

WHY are some of you just now bad mouthing Smith? Before the season began I started a thread in here saying that I was VERY concerned about him at left tackle this year due to his youth and inexperience. I wasnt even bashing Smith and I was practically ran right off the board as if I had taken a leak right in the middle of the star or something....:D

I'll say now just like I said then.....stay the coarse with Smith,..he's young and improving. In time he will be outstanding. All I said this summer was that so many had already put him in the OUTSTANDING category when he clearly wasnt yet.

He's been getting whooped and he's the most important guy on the line.

Love the Warmack pick. I am hoping they grab one of the two O-line Bama boys in the draft.

Believe it or not,....if it were me I would keep Bernie over Livings after this season. Bernie is younger and can play Guard or center. But in the end he would still be merely a BACKUP if by some miracle the three newcomers I mentioned were to be brought in. Slauson is a real scrapper you know,...tough guy kinda guy. EXACTLY what this O line needs. Vollmer? OUTSTANDING right tackle. And Warmack? In my view one of the better guards to come out in quite some time.

Also,.....could swear I read somewhere that the way Livings contract was written it wouldnt be all that bad of a hit for us if he were waived after this season???????????

Yup-move out the 22 year-old first round tackle and replace him with another 21/22 year-old. Makes perfect sense to me, almost as much as how DeCastro was going to save the oline last offseason.

Exactly. We need to move the O line and thus THE TEAM forward,...not backward.

How would you fix the OL?

Im a lifelong believer in the trenches. To me anyway,....the O line is where its at when it comes to offensive football. No line= no win most of the time. In truth,.....Romo practically deserves a damn medal for what he's had to put up with.

A functioning O line is important to ANY offense but especially to ours. We run the Gillman/ Coryell offense. A couple things about that........To run this offense you need a strong zone blocking team especially between the tackles , and a power runner. I believe we have that runner in Murrey when healthy. But the run blocking? Not so much. In fact...not even close.

You also need an interior line, meaning the center and both guards, that can hold the pocket and create the traditional horseshoe for the QB to step up into for the longer developing routes that are a staple of the ORIGINAL west coast offense. Yes....this was the ORIGINAL...;)

Lastly.....Its never been enuff for me to see an O line play merely a CLEAN game. Nope,...not hardly. I like an O line that wants nothing more than to beat the living hell out of the front seven. To really lay the wood.

The LOS means nothing. As an offensive line you should ALWAYS seek to control AT MINIMUM the LOS and the first three yards outward. You do that by being physical.

I dont want Costa back and I still think they wont address the O Line till round two at the earliest, which lets out Warmack. Your FA signings are kind of intriguing though.

Gosh I sure hope you are wrong on that. Warmack would be a real Godsend to this team.

I also think we could at least get by with Costa if surrounded by Warmack and Slauson. At least I would hope.

That original line I posted would also be a nice blend of youth and experience,....with a good bit of NASTY in it...LOL

Yes you did. But what else did you expect? :)

You are looking at it through a want to win and improve eye instead of a marketing eye like our GM. The draft is loaded with pass rushers and that is where they will go first (it is a major need too) IMO. Sacks sell more jerseys and tickets than somebody you dont notice until the QB is out cold.

I here ya Bro. That was one harsh thread! :)

On an unrelated note........I HAVE really warmed up to Costa of late. IMO he played like a man possessed in that Baltimore game. REALLY want to see him back and starting. Find out if it was a one game wonder or the start of an upward trend.
