My Meaningless Thoughts On The Game...

He is absolutely terrible.

imo that's lack of perspective speaking. Joe Theisman was terrible. Paul Maguire was terrible. Dan Dierforf was terrible. Collinsworth is moderately annoying at times. I'll take it. He's also occasionally insightful and doesn't go into the game trying to see how brilliant he can make himself look.

Well, Yakuza must not be high on Ware or Ratliff either.

They aren't winning in December either.

And I never said that.

Keep completely taking my statements out of context and saying things that I never even remotely said, it only makes you look worse.

Here's the thing, Romo hasn't played well in December and beyond, Ware and Ratliff have.

And I have posted on this very board before that is what I want out of Romo, good play in December and beyond. I wouldn't hold it against him if he plays fantastic and the team loses because of the defense. But when he plays poorly for 3 years in row come December and beyond, that's an issue.

But, I'm sure you'll put some other words in my mouth that I never said.

Rich, I strongly disagree with about Romo and that we should be making plans now to trade him. I'm also very surprised by your stance because you are generally very astute. I don't want to pin a label on you but I would be interested in your answers to 2 questions and those answers play into your opinion of Romo.

1, Do you think he played poorly in the playoff loss to the Giants, or that he played well enough to win that game?

2, Would you agree that a lot of last year's Dec. problems for the Cowboys were related to the injuries to key players?

By the way, I liked your OP and it's too bad every one of your summaries gets turned into a "Romo" thread (which I'm now feeding) when there is so much more in your post to talk about.

Yakuza,

Nice post. I always look forward to your post game thoughts :)

I don't think he played that well in the G-Men game.

"Playing well enough to win the game" doesn't always suit me when you have a guy that is the franchise QB and getting paid good money. He should do better than that. I don't expect gems every time he plays, but I do expect overall good play, especially in the postseason.

That being said, I will say this until I die, the G-Men dominated the Cowboys in field position in that game.

To some degree. But poor QB play and turnovers from the QB position hurt us equally as bad. I was for resting the starters in the Washington game in 2007 at the end of the year, but now looking back I think you need to at least make it appear like you are trying to win the game. That keeps the team's focus up for the game. Then if the starters play well, I would then bench them in the second half. If they play poorly, keep them out there.

Happens every week.

But that's my stance on Romo for now.

Believe me, I won't be saying 'I told you so' if Romo bungles up the game come December. I have nothing to gain if Romo has another terrible December and beyond. I do have a lot to gain if the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, just the joy of watching ESPN eat their words would tickle me to death.

Thanks for responding. I disagree about the Giants game. I think he played a very good game by most standards except for the desperation throw at the end. But we are each allowed our own opinions. Keep up the good work.

I thought Collinsworth's comment about Sheldon Brown getting "barbecued" by Miles Austin was hilarious, but he has a totally condescending style that is quite off putting, such as when he castigated the Giants punter in that playoff game against the 49ers a few years back for not spiking the ball after the bobbled snap, even though the rules only allow a player under center to spike the ball (he later refused to apologize for not knowing the rules). Overall, I would just prefer they give someone else a chance, Collinsworth has too many jobs as it is. :(

My responses to your thoughts:

1. Just stop with the December comments. Enjoy this win for once.

I agree! Why do people have such a hard time understanding that December games are meaningless unless you win in Sep-Nov? Do these folks really not get that The final game of the season is a throw away game when you are 4-11?

You win in the early part of the season so that the games in December/January mean something. That means that EVERY game is a big game. This isn't baseball people, there are only 16 games each year and every one of them is important. Every division game is a big game whether it happens in September or December.

This was a huge win for the Cowboys!

Yep - agree. I don't understand the hate, but to each his own.

I just don't get CC's appeal. Forget about last night for a second, he seems to say some unbelievably stupid stuff compared to having keen insight. It's almost a 3:1 ratio.

The slant/draw plays worked pretty well at first last year, then stunk after awhile because Dallas didn't throw slant plays. Almost like Mike Martz calling play action when his Rams teams wouldn't run the ball. AFter awhile the defense isn't fooled.

Now we have some receivers that runs slants pretty well and we actually call those plays. The Eagles and G-Men have that same philosophy of stacking the LOS, then making the QB figure out who is coming and who is dropping back in the zone. But now that we run slant plays, we can fake the slant and cause the defenders to drop back in the zone while we run the ball to the RB.

The entire Sunday night crew is BORING. Tony Dungy is a great coach and a stand up guy, but he has very little personality on camera. That entire group is boring. Rodney Harrison is just an idiot. I don't feel like I "gain anything" from watching them.

I like Collinsworth a lot. He's great in-studio or in the booth.

JMHO.

Great job Rich! I'd like to add big Jay 2 more sacks very disruptive player heis cannot believe he lasted 7 rounds wow. Scandrick played well too he gave up one completion to Avant that was a fantastic catch on his part

Just to add my two bits, Collinsworth calls it down the middle and his joy for the game comes through so he is okay in my books as a commentator.

Agreed. Great announcer.

I am mostly ambivalent towards Collingsworth, although he is miles better than the garbage ESPN trots out.

I thought his recognition of Samuels being hurt after Felix hit him in the head with his knee was great. He pointed out Dallas should of been attacking Samuels when he shied away from some tackles and looked woozy.

I stopped reading when you used Rush Limbaugh as a source to back up your opinion. In the future, don't do that. It's a good way to lose your credibility. JMO

I agree about Witten. It seems something is wrong with him. I don't think he could avoid a brick wall if it was in front of him.

It's amazing that he gets open like he does but as soon as the ball is in his hands it looks like he is running in quicksand. :)

Its been that way for a while. He is almost guaranteed to catch the pass, have a defender grab his legs and fall forward. At least he goes forward.

And he is open when we need it most. I'll take that even with little YAC any day!
