My meaningless thoughts on the game...

-I’ll give Parcells a pass on this game with his brother dying. But, the things they did that worked well in the first game they didn’t do in the second game. They rarely blitzed, they didn’t throw the ball to set up the run and didn’t use the shotgun until the end (which worked both times).

-Payton is so predictable at times. I can almost always call out when they are going to throw a screen or run a draw. There was a 3rd down and 5 play at midfield and I told my roommate that they were going to have Bledsoe roll out to the right and throw to Keyshawn. Not only did I know, but the Eagles did too and Sheldon Brown should’ve made the pick.

-People compare this to the Washington vs. Dallas MNF game from earlier this year, I’d say it was more like the Seattle vs. Dallas game a few weeks ago. I don’t think Philly dominated per say, but more or less controlled the game. The game was certainly within reach only being down 10 in the 4th quarter with the ball. Philly only had a slight advantage in yards, but had a ton more penalties. Even if Roy doesn’t get the pick, they’re down by 6 with the ball, with 3 timeouts and the 2 minute warning. Not necessarily an insurmountable comeback by any means. We’re we lucky? Sure, but it’s not like we could not have won that game without the Roy touchdown.

-Funny thing I noticed. One, Madden kept saying that Scott Shanle threw the block on McNabb after replay showed about a dozen times that it was Bradie and Al Michaels had commented that it was Bradie as well. Then they claim like Bradie gave a “JACKED UP” block to McNabb when he barely touched him.

-Andy Reid is a beauty. He pretty much tried to pass the blame on Reggie Brown for the Donovan interception in his post game press conference. The play called for a hitch route, Brown made the proper sight adjustment as Roy came down late. Not only did McNabb not make the proper sight adjustment, the ball would have been picked if Brown stuck with the hitch route. To say “they weren’t on the same page” was a pretty lame way of putting the blame on the rookie, Andy.

-In 3 of the last 4 games, Roy Williams has forced a key turnover in the last 4 minutes of the game. (forced fumble on Jacobs in the NYG game, INT in the Seattle game where he basically ripped the ball away from the receiver, and the Donovan pick). Yeah, he’s really overrated.

-I’m very disappointed in the way the team came out flat. Your coach just had to bury his brother and the opposing fans egg your bus as you come in.

-The Nose Guard play was atrocious. Ferguson and Glover were getting pushed around all night. The DE play was barely better.

-Kudos to Scott Shanle. The Eagles run the shovel pass to Westbrook inside the red zone almost every game and teams never seem to be ready for it.

-I saw that ball curving and I thought Akers was going to make the 60 yarder.

-I thought we missed Henry quite a bit. Probably a big reason why they blitzed so little and it definitely affected the run defense.

-Against a defense like Philly that loves to blitz so much, we missed Crayton who provides another possession receiver to move the chains. Peerless is so-so and they really need to draft a speedy WR with punt return skills next year.

-Overall, I’m glad they got the win but didn’t like the way they played or the playcalling for that matter. But, they’re 3-1 in the division and I figured they had to go at least 3-3 in the division to have a shot at the playoffs. Furthermore, they are the NFC East leader. I’ll take it.

I beleive it was Dat that called the attention of the D to the shovel pass. Shanle was not in on that play.

Good stuff, Rich.

Compared to other 3-4 teams, our NGs are lacking. Casey Hampton, the guy from SD and even the guy from Cleveland get constant penetration. I rarely see Ferg or Glover doing that, and never on a consistent basis. This defense is a Ngata and a Carpenter away from domination.

I agree Rich, they were flat, not sure what the fight was about at the first KO but after that it seemed they were doing most of the wanting to win the game...

It actually was Dat who called the Shovel pass by the goalline but overall he was awful...Always getting buried and whiffed on Westbrooks TD and then ran AWAY from McChunk when he scored in a Bizzaro world move by the lil feller...It looks like he should retire sooner then later!

James didn't level McChunk but was flying at him and that force along with twisting him...He really flew to make sure Roy scored great hustle play by James!

I agree about Payten, way too passive on offense for my blood...It really hurt to see us handled for most of the game...

But zimmy was worse...He/we had a freakin practice squad C starting for them and we NEVER took advantage of it or forced mistakes...Plain jane zimmy...

We have the talent to get 4 sacks, 3 turnovers every game on D and the talent is being wasted...WE got the win this time but geez...Ware is going up against Tra...the whole game...No stunts NOTHING...D- grade for zimmy...
Its time to start Canty/Fergy & Spears...Glover & Ellis are much better coming off the bench when they don't have to be knocked back vs running plays...

I don't agree with that. Ferguson has been pretty good for the most part, he just isn't a pass rusher. Glover has 4 sacks this year. This game and the Raiders game were their worst performances IMO, the other games they've been very good.

I'll give Zimmer the pass on not blitzing. They didn't have Henry and the majority of the Eagles plays were quick hits.

I think they hold the point, but penetration just isn't there. I'd bet none of Glover's sacks have come from the nose, but rather the 3 position in the nickle.

Speaking of missing Henry, I think they missed his tackling as well as his pass coverage.

I also couldn't understand why we went back to what didn't work rather than with what did in this game. With two weeks to prepare for them we came out flat and unprepared for their running game. We put zero pressure on McNabb until later in the game when we finally started to blitz a bit.

Run-run-pass, run-run-pass, same thing on every series. The reverse was so poorly executed that the Eagles knew it was coming as soon as the ball was snapped. Not once did I see a run to the outside, no pitch-outs, no sweeps, just off-tackle or up the middle. That throw to Keyshawn was telegraphed and I was surprised that the DB dropped the INT.

Then they claim like Bradie gave a “JACKED UP” block to McNabb when he barely touched him.

Those two nitwits drove me crazy all night with calling the wrong player's name. Madden calling Terry Glenn Aaron about a dozen times before someone finally clued him in. It got worse as the game went on as if the announcers had given up on the game and were just going through the motions. In fact I wouldn't have been surprised to see them with their feet up and a highball in their hands as they rambled on and on endlessly about Terrell Owens and ignored the game.

There is no way that was the WRs fault, it was on McNabb all the way.

Roy is really coming on lately and is making the big plays we were expecting from him since we drafted him.

-I’m very disappointed in the way the team came out flat. Your coach just had to bury his brother and the opposing fans egg your bus as you come in.

We were very flat and sluggish, I don't like the bye week as we always seem to come out of it flat and unprepared.

-The Nose Guard play was atrocious. Ferguson and Glover were getting pushed around all night. The DE play was barely better.

And that was against some scrub Center they brought in off their practice squad this week after Fraley went down. The guy looks like he is about 75 pounds overweight but he was pushing our pro-bowl NTs back on every play. No excuse for that IMO.

-Kudos to Scott Shanle. The Eagles run the shovel pass to Westbrook inside the red zone almost every game and teams never seem to be ready for it.

Actually it was Dat who recognized the shovel pass and was yelling it out.

-I saw that ball curving and I thought Akers was going to make the 60 yarder.

I also was expecting it to go through since no one has missed a FG against us in a very long time. I was so elated when I saw it land at around the 10 and roll into the endzone.

-I thought we missed Henry quite a bit. Probably a big reason why they blitzed so little and it definitely affected the run defense.

I also think that may have been a big factor in why we didn't blitz as much as normal. We also didn't give up any big pass plays, in fact McNabb rarely looked downfield at all which is why he missed Westbrook all alone near the endzone.

-Against a defense like Philly that loves to blitz so much, we missed Crayton who provides another possession receiver to move the chains. Peerless is so-so and they really need to draft a speedy WR with punt return skills next year.

I don't think it was the lack of another speedy guy that was the problem. The O-Line didn't give Bledsoe much time to throw except when we went with the max-protect package with two or three TEs which limited us to Glenn and/or Keyshawn at WR. Glenn pulled up a bit on the long pass late in the game but if he would have kept running the whole time it would have been a perfect TD pass to him.

Amen to that brother!

I was cussing Davis after he got that roughing penalty late in the game

I thought the Philly WR (Lewis I think) should ave gotten a unsportsmanlike penalty for his swan dive. The Russian judge gave him 9.7

I agree. I'm just thinking about the future as Glenn is 31 years old and since he's been here when he's been taken out of the game or injured, it greatly affects the offense.

Can't wait to get Crayton back though.

I'd like to have seen the hurry up offense earlier in the game. That, and the reverse to Glenn in the 2nd qtr (we got too cute there) were my only gripes about play calling. It's hard to complain much about play calling when everybody knows you can't run the ball at all.

It looked like the team was intimidated by the whole Monday Night-desperate Eagles thing, and seemed to be in a trance for 56 minutes of the game. Then they just snapped out of it.

And how about Jacques Reeves, he made the last 3 defensive plays of the night to stop the Eagles: 1st down, breaking up the long pass to Brown (which in every TV analysis of it was erroneously called a dropped pass), 2nd down, coming up to knock McMahon out of bounds (basically preventing a makeable FG) , and 3rd down breaking up another pass to Brown.

Also, the Eagles never should have had enough time to even attempt the FG. On our last punt we snapped the ball with 6 seconds left on the play clock.
