My meaningless thoughts on the game...

-I thought the refs were awful today and with Ed Hoculi as the head ref of the game, that was surprising. Detroit would have had a ton of penalties any way you look at it, but the refs did help out a bit. But, what annoyed me was that they would have a meeting and take forever on almost every penalty. So, when you have a team like the Lions who commit 17 penalties in the first 3 quarters and you have a NATO-esque conference after every penalty, it disrupts the ebb and flow of the game. Thus, it's perfectly logical why the crowd was pretty quiet.

-Bledsoe was awful today. Seemed to be shellshocked and not on the same page as his receivers. It's obvious that we're missing Crayton more and more as Useless Price is a non-factor.

-The defense looked a bit lethargic and continued to show that they looked worn down. And then for whatever reason, they really came alive in the second half.

-The defense seems real suceptible to "bounce out" running plays.

-While Aaron Glenn is playing very well, I can't wait to have Anthony Henry back at full speed. Henry plays the run much better and they seem to be willing to blitz more with him in the game.

-I think we do miss Al Singleton. Not a lot, but enough to harm us.

-I think we miss Jay Ratliff who provides nice depth and has a good motor to harass QB's.

-HOLY CRAP! The opposing kickers have missed their last TWO field goals against the Cowboys. Of course they were for a combined 110 yards, but that's another thing.

-The Skins lost and are blaming the refs. Stop me if you've heard this before.

-I chart kickoffs marking down their hangtime and their distance. That was best kickoff job I've ever seen out of Cundiff. Cundiff is a so-so kicker, yet I feel like a 400 lb monkey was lifted off my back when they re-signed him.

-Two poor snaps on PAT's today, but that's no biggie. Ladoceur did a good job on punts and the 56 yarder.

-Big props to Big Rob Pettiti who played alright, but considering he was banged up and they needed for him to stay in the game I've gotta commend him.

-Greg Ellis, 7 sacks in 10 games. That's unbelievable for a 3-4 DE. I think he owed Parcells an apology.

-I actually am starting to like the JuJo and Marion running combination. If I was Parcells, I'd keep JuJo as the starter with Marion in on 3rd downs, short yardage, and to give JuJo a breather.

-With that, awful job by Payton on the playcalling. Not only was having JuJo in the game near the goal line was a headscratcher, he had them run it 3 times in a row. Way to mix it up.

-Also with that, they need to focus on eliminating negative yardage carries.

-All in all, I'll take two victories in a row with Crayton out and Henry basically out for both games. I'm a bit concerned about Bledsoe and I'm starting to think that the staff has done all they could to deal with Crayton being gone and it's finally coming back to haunt them. I'm also a bit concerned about the pass rush, but I'll reserve judgement until Henry is in the lineup going full speed. (Oddly enough, when Henry was in the game, that's when Ellis got the sack and fumble)

Some great points....Useless Price... :p:

I didn't have as much of a problem with running the ball three times near the goal line as much as I did the WAY we ran it.

Three times...no WR...with a DE as FB.

So, let's take a look.

The defense can ignore the outside.

Bledsoe has zero mobility so the roll out is nothing to worry about, nor is the bootleg.

The "FB" offers no pass catching threat because he's a DE.

Basically, on three straight plays we told them exactly what we were going to do. The more options..the more turf a defense has to cover, the better it is for the offense.

This was a case of holding a hug sign "We're gonna hand it to Jones to run between the hash marks."

Foolish...spread the defense a little...then run it.

And yes, Barber has a great nose for the goal line...

I mentioned it last week...most of these coaches are really smart guys but at least a few times a game, they'll leave ya in a mind boggled stupor. This was an example of that.

Barbers great nose consisted of having a hole to run through.

Price has done about 1 good thing for us this year, the big catch against Philly. Any of the WR should and probably would have made that play. He is what he is, insurance, and I doubt he gets resigned by us at the end of the year. Crayton really is special, anyone who can't see that hasn't watched us since he went down. He can't get back soon enough. We barely escaped Philly, and Detroit is just that bad.

Yeah ok...Barber finishes his runs better than JJ and has a better feel in short yardage situations...if you can't see that, it's possible that your nose is up another part of your body while watching the game.

Ditto on that. I like Jones more as a threat to make the big play, but if we are at the goalline, I think that Barber needs to get those 3 carries, not Jones. I think that both those guys are going to be contributers for the rest of the year, and beyond that. Jones is more explosive, Barber is more well rounded.

Regarding the bounces to the outside - I was at the game, so correct me if I am wrong, but it looks alot like Ware commits to the inside of the tackle, the RB bounces out. A lot like LT did in the opener.

Note - this is not an end of the world Ware sucks thing - just saying that I think teams notice it and point it out to the RBs. Ware needs to improve.

On one play, it wasn't a big deal, because Ware saw it, and though he didn't touch KJ, he got close enough and made him run so laterally that Davis came in and gave him some wood.
