-I do believe that the Field Goal was tipped, but I think that the refs made the right call. I say this because after the game Ken Lucas stated that he did get a piece of the ball. He really has no reason to lie at this point and the only people who really know whether or not the ball was tipped is Lucas and Peppers.
That being said, there's absolutely no indisputable evidence to that happening. The trajectory and direction did not clearly change. The only thing that did change was the ball started to spin after it went by Lucas. However, that's typically how the ball moves on field goals....not spinning until the ball gets in the air a bit.
-We saw the REAL Julius today. The obvious trait was how he was cutting today, the best he's cut all year long. But the other trait was we saw him actually lower his head and run with power, moving the tackler or the pile for the first time this year.
-How good was Julius today? Well before this game the Panthers were ranked 4th in rushing yards allowed per game (87.5). They were were 2nd in rushing yards allowed per carry (3.5). And they were 4th in rushing TD's allowed (7). Also, they were ranked 10th in rushing DVOA according to Footballoutsiders.com Web site.
Despite all of that, Julius ran for 194 yards on 5.7 yards per carry and had 2 TD's.
-Was it Julius or the blocking? I'd say Julius by a long shot. There were a few times were Julius got some real nice holes like on the long TD run (he still had to be fast enough to blow by the defenders). But the run blocking was still horrible on several occasions. On a pitch play to the left, Al Johnson was in space and just decided not to block anybody. Put it this way, I saw several whiffs and the O-Line still cannot block from the weakside to save their lives. Oh yeah, Polite was whiffing all over the place as well.
-I usually stick up for Pettiti, but he was ridiculously bad today and cost them with silly penalties. He's pretty much good for giving up at least 2 sacks per game.
-Okay, I think A LOT of people need to cop to eating some crow when it comes to Bledsoe. All of the criticisms and "he can't do this" or "he can't do that" have been officially evaporated after today. Yes, he's got his limitations but he has won big games for us this season, has won on the road, and has played well when facing pressure (has played bad when facing pressure too, but aren't most QB's like that?)
Coming into this weak, the bashers kept saying that Drew was the reason the O-Line stinks and how he falters down the stretch. Well, he just played very well in a HUGE December game with little O-Line protection against a top 5 defense ON THE ROAD. The snatch the dangling carrot away really needs to stop.
-The bashers against the defense need to eat some crow today as well. Hey, KC has tore up every defense when healthy for the past 3 years. The Skins offense is starting to come alive. Other than that the defense has been great.
-Roy getting injured makes the THIRD starting defensive player to get injured on an INT return (Glenn against NYG and Henry against Arizona). Unbelievable :::shakes fist:::
-I know it's Xmas and all, but lets not delay the inevitable and just cut Cundiff already. Billy, you could make your next 7 field goals and you'd still suck.
-This defense seems to play better with Ellis in the lineup more.
-Fujita played well today. On the bright side he's played well in 3 out of his last 4 games.
-I think once Ware gets some more upper body strength and learns to master some inside moves, he'll really dominate. He's got such a quick first step and long arms that stripping the ball from the QB will come naturally for him.
-McBriar? 48.3 average kick with a long of 63. His net was 40.8 yards. Maybe Matt Mosley can read my lips when it comes to my thoughts on his writing.
-Parcells retiring? Okay, let's look at the rumors that have gone around Cowboys camp since he's been here:
1. Parcells WOULD NEVER coach Dallas because he can't stand Jerry Jones.
2. Parcells would not last ONE YEAR in Dallas because he and Jones would be unable to co-exist.
3. Parcells was supposed to retire after last season.
4. Keyshawn had a contract dispute before this season.
5. Dat Nguyen and a 2nd rounder for Darren Howard.
6. There was a huge argument over Ware and Merriman in the draft room.
Guess what they are batting on those "rumors?"
-The common belief is that the Falcons and Eagles have nothing to play for. Well, both are division games played on their home turf. Certainly the Cowboys chances don't look good, but I've seen worst. Also, Michael Vick has typically owned the Panthers in his career.
-Overall I'm pretty happy with the way this team has played. Despite the injuries, they are 9-6, have beaten some good teams on the road and have generally improved despite playing a very tough schedule. If they go 10-6, it's a tough pill to swallow if they don't make the playoffs considering if they had a slightly below average kicker they'd be in the playoffs if not leading the division already.
However, I'm still not going to overlook the Rams especially considering that Roy Williams is out which is a huge injury. And while this team plays well at home, who knows what team will show up.
-Oh yeah, MERRY XMAS EVERYBODY!
