But going back to the safety issue. I agree and I appreciate the OP. Our safeties have sucked since Woodson retired. The last good pair of safeties we had was Woodson and Roy Williams. Then #28 retired and Roy Williams started to fall off. That's why Darren is in the ROH is becuase he made up for a lack of talent in areas of the secondary. So much love to Darren Woodson, but now to the present. Does it really take 6-8 years to find a quality safety. Seriously. Hopefully Byron Jones will develop into either a good cb or a good safety. But wow, how can a team go for so long without either developing or drafting or signing an area of need. It's pretty bad when this team hopes Matt Johnson will develop into a good safety that we kept him on the team on IR for like 3 or 4 years, or whatever. It's like we don't know when to give up on a player we're trying to develop. How many games have been lost to poor safety and CB play.
Stop trying to develop players that suck. If they suck then cut them. It's not that difficult. I'm sure Wilcox, Webb, Heath and whoever else has great potential but you can't rely on future potential to win today. Frustrating. Future potential could not stop the present day Eagles from going down the field and scoring. Other teams live in the present. We for instance live for the future with the safety position. always looking to develop some player for the future and we'll be set.
I would love for Jerry and his minions to flip flop that philosophy and go for present day talent with the safety position and maybe, just maybe think about getting a qb to develop. I don't know, maybe that might be the position to look for to develop when your current QB is getting older.
But no, we'll ignore Romo's age and pretend that he can play forever, just like we did with Aikman and then Romo will retire and we won't be prepared for it.
But take heart cowboyszone. We will find that franchise safety to develop because franchise safeties win super bowls. On a yearly basis we're taking some flyer or trying to find the diamond in the rough for a safety but we go decades between drafting qb's to develop. Don't get me twisted, I'm not saying I want Romo replaced. I'm pointing out the completely inept thinking when it comes to which position on the team they decide to always look for the next star to develop and their ineffectiveness to do so.
