My Midnight Mock

I am doing this mock with the thought that we trade with Jacksonville possibly looking to jump in front of Washington for a WR or QB. I don't believe in the trade chart too much but looking at the trades from last year's draft I believe that our 1st round pick for their 1st (16th overall), 3rd (80th overall), and 4th (114th overall) would be a fair trade. They have two 4th round picks.

1(16) Gabe Carimi OT Wisconsin- His ceiling isn't as high as some of the other T prospects, and this may be considered a reach. I believe he is the most ready to step right in, and may be the best RT prospect overall so he is a good fit for us.

2(40) Stefen Wisniewski OG/C Penn St- In 1989 the Cowboys drafted his uncle Steve in the second round and then traded him to the Raiders where he was selected to 8 probowls and the 1990's All-Decade team. Good offense starts with protecting the QB and running the football and it all starts up front. With the uncertainty between Kosier and Bigg, this could prove to be a wise pick. Stefen has experience at both G and C so his versatility helps out.

3(71) Brandon Burton CB Utah- He only has average speed and didn't intercept alot of passes so his name doesn't jump out, but I think he could be a solid corner in Rob Ryan's defense.

3(80) Jerrell Powe NT Ole Miss- A big knock against Powe is his age and perceived lack of intelligence, but IMO a late-diagnosed learning disability really held him back. He worked at a jail to support himself during his eligibility problems and is now on track to get a criminal justice degree. Brent backed up Ratliff last year and while I liked what I saw in him, I think he may be better as a DE. Powe's short, thick frame would be perfect in the middle of our D.

4(110) Jamie Harper RB Clemson- He is compared to Greg Jones, could make a good backup for Jones if we decide to part ways with Barber.

4(114) Chris Culliver FS South Carolina- He posted some of the fastest times at the combine, but struggled with injuries and inconsistency on the field. He does have good return skills and could be a bit of a boom or bust pick.

5(143) Cecil Shorts III WR Mount Union- The Cowboys have a history of taking small-school WRs, and why not follow that trend to replace Hurd. Shorts has good receiving and return skills but his level of competition wasn't the best.

6(176) Mark Herzlich LB Boston College- Once a top rated prospect, his cancer scare pushes him way down the boards. Nobody questions his heart, but his recent showings haven't helped his case. If he can recover this could be a great pick.

7(220) Justin Boren OG Ohio St- He is known for his strength and nasty attitude on the field. His lack of mobility hurts him but at this point he could be a good developmental pick.

7(251) Mark LeGree DB Appalachian St- Small school ball hawk that likes to hit too. Should be able to contribute early on special teams.

Great job! I like it alot.

Especially since you didn't pick the names typically tossed around

Love it.

Those 1st 2 picks would help us out tremendously even though im not completely sold on the Penn State kid.

I know he will give the effort though to be the best he can so thats why I still like the pick.

Wisniewski's blood lines and track record at Penn St make me want to believe he will be a good NFL player. I have seen reports say he needs to add some strength, but like you say I think his effort on the field will pay off for us. Thanks for the comment!
