Yes, I know it's too early to be doing these. However it is late and I'm bored...maybe we can start throwing ideas back and forth no matter how early it is.
1a. Darren McFadden RB Arkansas- This is a no-brainer right here. Julius will be gone, and I like MBIII as a feature back, but McFadden is just one of those guys you can't pass on. Plus he's a Razorback so this is a perfect pick in Jerry mind.
1b. Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma- TO and Glenn are both aging and injury-prone. I like Crayton in the #2/#3 slot, but I can't see him stepping up and being that #1 guy. Hurd, Austin, and Stanback are decent depth, but they can't be counted on for anything. Kelly has the size and speed you look for, and could have some fun with Garrett, Romo, and Co.
2. Dwight Lowery CB San Jose St.- Terrance Newman's absence really magnified our lack of quality depth at CB. Lowery is a big, physical CB that has a knack for creating turnovers. He could be a real steal if we could get him here.
3. Dre Moore DT Maryland- Ratliff is working out really nicely right now, but his natural position is DE. Tank may provide something, but until he actually plays I don't want to count on him for anything. Ferguson will be entering his 11th season and his starting to get up there in age. Moore's got good enough size to handle playing the middle, and he's also a very good pass rusher. I think he will fit right into Wade's aggressive D-line approach.
4. Doug Legursky OC Marshall- Gurode has done great ever since moving to C, but we really don't have alot of depth behind him. Proctor and Berger are decent depth at G, but neither have much experience at C. Legursky has the size and strength to fit in with our mauling OL and has good enough versatility that he can backup both the G and C spots.
5. Jameel McClain DE/OLB Syracuse- Carpenter and Burnett both look more suited to the ILB slot which leaves Justin Rogers and Ellis behind Spencer and Ware. Until Ellis proves that he can play effectively after rupturing his Achilles' tendon, I'm not counting on him for anything. McClain was moved to DE from LB before last season, so he already know how to play the position. He's got a knack for getting after the QB too: 9.5 sacks & 14.5 TFL last year, 1.5 sacks & 3.5 TFL so far this year. In Syracuse's upset of Louisville he had 1 INT, 1 pass breakup, 2 TFL, 1 sack, and 1 FF.
6. Sam Keller QB Nebraska- I've liked him since his days at Arizona St., and I think with time he could develop into a good backup for Romo. He's got a strong arm and his accuracy is improving, but sometimes he trusts his arm too much and that can get him into trouble. He needs to learn how to read defenses better, and progress through his reads to find the open receiver but overall I think he's worth a shot here as a developmental backup prospect.
7. BPA- Every year big names drop for a variety of reasons. I think that with the current state of the team, that we can take a risk on one of those big fallers right here....low risk, high reward.
