So I'm a bit addicted to the FANSPEAK simulators, I'll admit. Lots of fun and slightly different outcome every time.
Per what I was able to do in FANSPEAK (so accuracy may vary) Manage the Cap and Draft Simulator, seemed like pretty plausible to turn us into a SB-assured team. The below numbers are approximate from what I remember so don't quote my numbers exactly but per the FANSPEAK simulators it all worked. Here's how it played out:

Cut (or not resigned):
RB Murray
LB Watson
DT Brent
OT Hawkins
DT Melton

Restructured:
QB Romo
LB Lee
OT Smith
CB Carr
(PS. It seemed like we've already committed so much to these guys restructuring doesn't kill us long-term unless their play just drops off a cliff.)

Cap Space: $54+m

Resigned: ($ per year)
WR Harris $1m
OT Free $3.5m
OT Parnell $2m
FB Clutts $1m
LB Carter $3m
LB McClain $4m
CB Moore $1m
DE Spencer $3m
DT Hayden $1m
LB Durant $1m
P Jones $1m

Franchise Tag
WR Dez Bryant (cost $14m but he wouldn't sign for that or less anyway)

Left me around $21m+ in remaining space not including the $5m to sign rookies.

Free Agent Pickups:
DT Suh ($14m)
RB Peterson ($7m)
This actually worked out and I had even more cap space available but I know its good practice to keep some on hand in case there are injuries. The numbers that worked for me above were actually a little better and I had a few m in cap space. I had enough to sign another decent FA if I wanted.

Draft:

1) DE Nate Orchard. He is explosive and available late first. I actually traded back with Seattle and picked up an extra 5th rounder. Our new DL becomes Crawford, Suh, DLaw, and Orchard/Spencer. Nice!
2) OG Tre Jackson. Yep, seems like a luxury but at this point the 2 OGs from FL St and the kid from Duke are truly BPA. Also, Leary was definitely the weak link last year. I'm ambivalent about which of those 3 OGs we pick but would love to snag one of them here and upgrade Leary.
3) CB Kevin Johnson. Also considered CB Gholson. Clear need for CB in the first 3 rounds. Would LOVE to snag DE Preston Smith here since I think he could play DE on 1st and 2nd down then slide inside to DT on 3rd and long...but with Orchard in the first and Suh in FA, not sure how he'd see the field. Love WR Lockett here, but since I resigned Dwayne Harris and the fact that Lockett would likely have a hard time getting on the field for us....I let him pass and took a CB. This gives us Carr, Johnson, Scandrick and allows Patmon to go back to the bench. Not sure how the draft will play out but it may require us to grab Johnson in the late second and use our 3rd to take OG Mapet.
4) LB Ben Heeney. Love this kid, real nose for the ball. Good motor, big heart, smart. I also like Taiwan Jones and Stephone Anthony. But considering Lee and McClain's health issues, be good to have a youngster also.
5a) WR Diggs. Absolute luxury pick. I kept Harris's contract to 3 years but Diggs could be a dynamite returner and is certainly a blazer. Probably won't crack the WR rotation but could overtake Harris as a returner. Also strongly considered S Anthony Jefferson, CB Josh Shaw, and CB Gunter. Think those CBs are a bit underrated.
5b) OT Tyrus Thompson. Yes, I resigned both Free and Parnell but Thompson is a good player that was still available.
7) DT James Castleman. Yep, dropped $14m on Suh and still took Castleman. Guy is big on effort and athleticism. Probably eventually becomes a decent rotational guy.

UDFAs:
S Sam Carter TCU
LB Bryce Hager Baylor
LB AJ Tarpley Stanford
CB Deshazor Everett

If you have fun then great; however, the simulator are far from reality. With regards to free agents it only calculates the fit for 2015, IIRC. The Cowboys could re-sign everybody and several big free agents if the 2015 cap was the only issue; however, it's the future years cap(s) that would be the problem.

Your draft looks reasonable, but most drafts on the simulators are unrealistic.

It's basically playing Madden.

My take and I'm not a capologist is why would players like Free,Carter and maybe Spencer
sign for these low numbers? I'm not sure about Suh but I think He'll get more [could be wrong}
I dont like Suh on my team anyway.Peterson is 30 years old and lots of miles on those legs.
We might get Murray at those numbers even though Seattle has just changed the RB contract
values.Murray is younger and has proved what he brings to the Dallas table. But I'd let him
go get that big contract elsewhere anyway.

Free might take 3.5 a year if you give him 3 years and guarantee a portion of it. I doubt Parnell takes less then 3. And there is ZERO chance the Cowboys restructure Carr, its renegotiate or cut as the two options. I guess we could decide to just get one more year down the road with Carr, but that'd be a widely distant 3rd place.

Just to be clear, we don't resign Beasley, Dunbar, and Leary?

They didn't have them up for that option for whatever reason.

Heck yes it's playing madden and not exact reality but it did give me a much better idea about our potential cap space and the ballparks for what our FAs will cost

Maybe we should have a sticky for just the fanspeak mocks?

Combine starts the 17th. Free agency early March...

I think you have to sign up for their Premium Package to have the option of resigning you RFA's, EFRA's, etc.................you also need this option to trade picks in the Draft Simulator.

Those might be cap hits instead of salaries.

3.5M looks correct for Free. That's his 2014 salary.

3M seems really high for Spencer. I'm not convinced his knee will hold up.

3M for Carter might not be far off. He is just so inconsistent. He looked great at times in 2014 but Hitchens also started several games over Carter.

I have no idea about Suh. He is a great player but more than 14M would be extreme for most teams.
