Thanks to the work of some of the posters on here(thanks LatinMind. one of my favorite posters on here)
the amount of Capspace we can free up is 30+ mil.
Main Player Cuts
- Brandon Carr
- Terrell McClain
- Devin Street
Cheap resigned
- Bernadeau OL
- James Hanna TE- With Escobar injured and swaim a unknown, Hanna should be brought back.
- Ronald Leary OG- Place a 2nd round tender on him. great chance he gets taken by a playoff team. My guess would be Seattle who is need of Oline upgrades without killing their cap.
Notable Free agent signings
- Anquan Boldin WR- We are in win now mode and we need any upgrades to our skill positions we can get. Boldin most likely wont be in the league much longer but at 35 he can still move the chains, still a red zone threat, and is still a play maker in general. 1 year deal for a few mil. I know a younger player is what most want but Boldin is immediate help that wont be a strain on our future cap(gotta have the space to lock down our All Pro Oline)
- Demarcus Ware DE- Ware may be an import piece to Denver's Superbowl run, but he is not in their plans going foward. Denver has a ton of big name free agents they need to reup and only so much capspace to go around. Cutting ware will give additional 10 mil in cap to Denver to resign is core. Ware comes back home on a 3 year team friendly mid level deal. Shares the snaps with Randy Gregory on the right side as well as serves as his mentor.
- Brandon Mebane DT- Like Denver, Seattle has a ton of big name free agents hitting the market as well as 2 unhappy Stars in Kam Chancellor and Michael Bennett who want to negotiate for larger contracts. Some of Seattle's free agents expressed wanting to do whats needed to stay, Mebane was not one of them. He is still a top run stuffing tackle who can give some pressure up the middle. He has expressed he doesn't know how much longer he wants to play so i wouldn't give a deal longer then 2 years. Will probably be a little pricey, but he will be off the books by the time the money is needed.
- Janoris Jenkins CB- The big money signing. like Seattle and Denver, the Rams have to pretty much resign their entire unrestricted secondary. Best zone corner in the game and a pure play maker. Just make it happen.
(Using CBS, Walterfootball, and Drafttek to get the general draft rankings)
RD 1.) Myles Jack ILB, UCLA- My last mock was my Wentz mock so got that out of the way. I'm not opposed to a QB at 4, I'm just one that praying for it. Going impact is how i most likely see our draft going so I chose Jack. I keep seeing people saying jack is too small. Hes not too small. He is a freak athlete and is heavier then he is listed. Not to mention the MIKE in a Tampa 2 is required to drop into coverage alot more then other schemes. day 1 starter.
RD2.) Su'a Cravens SS, USC- I'm praying Cravens falls out of the 2nd, but if he does i hope we run to the podium. He is a WILL LB/SS hybrid player so he would be perfect to replace Church as our box safety. Like Jack, Cravens is a tremendous athlete with good cover skills. He can be a real play maker for us in both run and pass defense. one of my favorite players in this years draft.
Rd 3.) Kenneth Dixon RB, Louisiana Tech- A Jack of all trades kind of back. great player in a RB by committee. not afraid to run between the tackles and not the easiest to bring down. Eventual full time starter. Compares to Thomas Rawls.
RD 4.) Bralon Addison WR, Oregon- Yup my pet cat once again in my Mock. Burner with big play making ability. Small but tough. Eventual full starter out the slot(sorry Beasley. I like u but we already have a safety blanket in Witten) Can make an immediate impact as our PR/KR man.
RD 4 comp.) Cyrus Jones CB, Alabama- Physical press corner who is great in run support and in zone coverage. Not afraid to tackle and plays bigger then he looks because of his long arms. Best fit is in Tampa 2 as the slot corner. Serves as another option as our punt returner.
RD 6.) Jacoby Brissett QB, NC State- I know some have the mindset of if not one of the big 3 then dont draft a QB at all. I like Brissett because he has a high ceiling but a low floor. He is a good developmental prospect who has the traits coaches look for. big arm, fast enough to make something happen when he has to scramble, can thrown on the run, not afraid to thrown down field to make something happen instead of checking down like alot of college QBs. he is someone that wont be ready to see the field for at least a couple years but the hitches in his game can be fixed with coaching,
RD 6 comp.) Byron Marshall RB, Oregon- My choice as Dunbars replacement as the scat back. has big playmaking potential as well is built thicker then Drunbar.
RD 6 comp.) Drew Kaser P, Texas A&M- Averaged 48 yards per punt this season with a longest punt of 71 yards. Beat the per punt record that was previously held by Shane Lechler.
RD 6 comp.) Quayvon Hicks FB, Georgia- Was the man that cleared the run lanes for Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb. very solid run and pass blocker. great size at 6'1" 255 lbs. Natural hands as a pass catcher and a good goal line option as he is the best running fullback in this years class. Played both FB and TE in his college career.
Priority UDFA
- Vincent Valentine DT, Nebraska- At 6'4" 320lbs, Valentine was the man in the middle that did all the dirty work for both Randy Gregory and Maliek Collins at Nebraska. He is a big block eating, run stuffing, bull rushing 1Tech that can develop into a long time starter at 1Tech for us. Have seen some call him a unpolished Haloti Ngata because of his strength and how light on his feet he is. has quick hands and a non stop motor. With Brandon Mebane as mentor, he could be a steal.
- Jordan Swindle OT, Kentucky- Big and moves surprisingly quick for his size. Shows he can mirror in pass coverage(has trouble with speed rushers), has the burst to block in the 2nd level, & is decent as a zone blocker. Needs to add strength and continue to develop his footwork. Has the potential to be a decent swing tackle with the best case becoming as a starter at RT.
- Stephen Weatherly OLB, Vanderbilt- He has the size 6'5" 255 lbs, long arms, and broad shoulders to become a pass rushing threat down the line. he also has the agility and the awareness to play in coverage. I like him as our SAM linebacker/DE role that Wilber played for us. if he can continue to bulk up, then move him over to DE as a rotational player.
- Arjen Colquhoun CB, Michigan State- Has good size at 6'1" 202 lbs. He is long, athletic, and fast( supposedly ran 4.37 at camp before his freshman year Michigan State). A project player but shows constant improvement every year. Let him show what he can do in training camp.
- Shiro Davis DE, Texas- Poor mans Demarcus Lawrence. Good run defender and will occasianlly get to the QB. Has the potential to be a rotational player at Strong side defensive end. Been reported that he takes plays off and needs the right coach to keep him motivated. Sign him and let Hot Rod have him for training camp. If Hot Rod can't keep him motivated then i dont know who can.
