Is Manning the Head coach of the Colts? It sure is how he is being treated. "Why did he throw that pass on third down? Why didn’t he run more? Why didn’t he use the screen pass more? Ummmmm, because that is what the coaching staff told him to do!!! He is the quarterback. The guy on the sideline with the head set on makes the calls, like every other QB, he tries to execute them. And when he does audible Manning has admitted and guys like Belichek confirm that 80% the time it is BS, and most the other times it is to change the damn direction of a run or to alert someone the blitz is on, not to change a play called in. He DOES NOT call his own plays, that is why there is a coaching staff. He is smart, he isn't that smart that he sees more than they see up in the booth. That is why there are 10 coaches up in the booth above.UNBELIEVABLE he is being treated like the offensive coordinator, blocking scheme developer, etc!!!!
He is not a winner? How the heck could he be. You either have to have a legendary coach who can make mid game adjustments in the heat of the action, or you are done. It is impossible with a coach who cannot change in midstream.
Manning was sacked five times and pressured another 15 yesterday. Where were the blocking schemes, screen passes or draw plays. Was there a coaching staff actually at the game? To watch Manning under that type of constant pressure go 22-38 for 290 with a TD while waving off the punt team then coming through and say, "boy did he choke today". It means either you just don’t like the guy and are biased, or you were not watching him run for his life all day! They made NO ADJUSTMENTS from what I could see, NONE.
I defy any QB to have played for the coaches and with the poor defenses Manning has had and be known as "a winner". I also defy anyone to tell me if Manning had played for a Cowher, Shananhan, Jimmy Johnson, or Weiss and Belichek in the pros he wouldn’t be "winning the big one". He has had awful offensive coaching and until this year, NO DEFENSE.Yesterday the defense was shown to be what it really was all along, "improved". Maybe top ten, but no where close to DOMINANT.
Manning's coaches over his career are why they make puke bags
College coach- Phillip J. Fulmer(The worst college coach, EVER) How the heck Manning beat Alabama and Georgia three years in a row while winning three bowl games is a freaking testament to him and his teammates. How badly out schemed and out maneuvered Tennessee was vs. Florida every year was a testament to Steve Spurrier and a clear indictment of Fulmer. Fulmer is the ONLY coach with a top ten program NEVER to get feelers from the pros…wonder why.
Pro Coaches-
Jim Mora - "PLAYOFFS….PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!" This is the guy who was known in New Orleans as not being able to win a PLAYOFF GAME, and being strictly a DEFENSIVE minded coach. Offensive adjustments, blocking schemes, huh?? PLAYOFFS!!!! We aren't diddly poo!!! PLAYOFFS!!!"
Tony Dungy- First off, a great, great guy. Secondly, strictly known as a very good DEFENSIVE coach who stopped Barry Sanders a few times. But most importantly, and really ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW. Tony Dungy sent out his punt team with 14 minutes left in a game he trailed 21-3 when he only needed two yards at midfield. Two yards! Is there ANYTHING else you have to know? Maybe the fact they also went shot gun from the one yard line at the end of the second quarter also may be another thing you need to know. Amazing. Where were the screen passes, the draw plays, the reverses against a constant up the field pass rush. People act like Manning is the damn coach. He is a 29 year old player. Dungy is supposedly the coach, not yesterday!
Now lets look at the "Winners" and who coached them.
Joe Montana - Bill Walsh
Roger Staubach- Tom Landry
Terry Bradshaw- Chuck Noll
Kenny Stabler- John Madden
Len Dawson - Hank Stramm
Kurt Warner- Dick Vermeil
Troy Aikman- Jimmy Johnson
Joe Theisman - Joe Gibbs
Note:Everyone of these coaches is in the hall of fame, except for Jimmy Johnson and Vermeil, who will be soon.
Here are the "Losers" who "became winners once I got a coach"
Steve Young- Walsh/Seiffert (Wasn’t getting it done in Tampa, more INTS than TDS, not a winner!!!)
Brett Farve - Mike Holmgren (An out of control small school prospect while in Atlanta, June Jones wasn’t getting it done.)
Tom Brady - Bill Belichek and Charlie Weiss (Brady was an on again off again starter in college under Lloyd Carr's brilliant tutelage at Michigan, making him a 6th round pick, then became a "winner" in the pros)
John Elway- Mike Shanhan (Previously known as a "loser" under Dan Reeves for years)
Phil Simms- Bill Parcells (for years considered "Too dumb", got a lot smarter and became "a winner" under Parcells)
Now you do have your rarities, the "I am not any good but had the best defense in the league QBs" so I won it all.
Jim McMahon
Trent Dilfer (For Gods sakes)
Brad Johnson (For gods sakes two times over!) (I think the Gruden plus best defense, just barely got him there, he needed both)
Doug Williams (Again, Gibbs and the best defense just barely did it for him)
Jim Plunkett (Best Raider Defense ever, he beat, Legendary Ron Jaworski coached by, uh huh..Dick Vermeil)
You also have your "all-time great QBs with marginal at best coaches, so I am a loser" list
Peyton Manning (Mora/Dungy)
Fran Tarkenton (Bud Grant)
Jim Kelly (Marv Levy)
Dan Marino (Don Shula. I realize this is controversial, but check out the coach on the opposite sideline of the "Namath guarantees game" and you will understand)
Bert Jones (Ted Marchibroda)
One note, you really could combine Bud Grant and Marv Levy into one guy, they were THAT bad, and just call the coach Bud Levy!
Bottom line. Manning either gets a new coach, or the best defense in the league, or kiss it goodbye. Because this "pretty good defense" with a fair coach….it isn't gonna work!!!!!
So this weekend watch those legendary QB's go for the Bowl.
Jake Plummer (Former loser, turned winner by Shanahan)
Ben Rothensberger (Anyone remember Neil O'Donnell, lets all now bow to Bill Cowher at once, bow…)
Tim Hasselbeck (Mike Holmgren shockingly at it again)
Jake Delhomme (Can Fox get him there twice, he is a Parcells disciple, so the answer is, YES)
Hmmm….of the four coaches left, three are sure fire hall of fame coaches, with Fox sure to be a fourth. No hall of fame QBs, but all WINNERS. Interesting.
Shockingly the only teams that did NOT WIN ONE PLAYOFF GAME, were coached by the following geniuses
Lovie Smith
Tony Dungy
Tom Coughlin (yells like a good coach, aint one though)
Jack Del Rio
Marvin Lewis
Jon Gruden(His loss doesn’t count because out of Joe Gibbs and Gruden, someone had to lose)
Shocking!!!
