My opinions regarding the SD game...

1. Whoever is in charge of NFL Network needs to jump off a high building. What the hell are they thinking making us watch the last minutes of a crappy preseason game when nothing but scrubs are playing instead of going to the beginning of the Cowboys/Chargers game when actual starters are playing?

2. Fire our special teams coach now. I didn't like the hire last year and I like it less now. Our coverage and return units SUCKED.

3. Few thoughts on the backup LBs:

Carpenter: Was solid, but nothing near the way it's been reported how he'd been in camp so far. Now part of that is him, but part of it is also the DL getting blown off the ball almost every play.

Burnett: Sorry, but he's a sorry POS. He's a "quick" LB that can't play in space. We all know he can't play in a crowd so exactly what is he good for? Certainly not coverage cuz if someone catches a short one on him it's a guaranteed 5-10 yards at least. He can't tackle in space and he can't take on blockers. He's worthless. Cut him now.

Rogers: He played almost as sorry as Burnett but at least he looked aggressive. He lost contain several times cuz he was overaggressive and lost his leverage.




The Good:

Miles Austin: What really stood out to me was how "natural" he looked catching the ball, which is a huge difference from the last two years. He didn't look like he was trying to strangle the ball when he caught it, and he made some really nice plays tonight.

Felix Jones: I may have to eat some crow on this guy. He was impressive, and at the same time didn't look too "Jittery".

Teshard Choice: Not spectacular, he doesn't have a lot of "Shake" but he has just enough subtle lateral movement to make you miss. He won't brake any ankles, but he will break some arm tackles.


Can't comment on the starters thanks to NFL Network's complete incompetence.

We started off so fierce. Defense 3 and out and then our offense scores a TD. Im going to forget everything that happened after that. Except for Felix, he was solid, and Austin was good too. Outside those two, I lost my memory.

It came back on with the Cowboys kicking off after the TD. So basically SD and Dallas' first drives were missed...the most interesting part of the game basically.

i missed the chargers/cowboys opening drives and saw jenkins break up a pass right before the Amendola fumble.

I have to say I was much more down on Carpenter tonight than you must have been. Seemed like he was always a step late, never forced the issue and made a play, etc.

I so want him to pan out. But I say this in all seriousness -- more performances like tonight and I think he could be one of those "surprise" cuts as we march down to 53.

Burnett and Carpenter both suck, they either are missing tackles or getting blown up by scrubs. Zack and his 20 concussions outplayed both of them easy.

Both Carpenter and Burnett, were indeed poor tonight...Boggles the mind how these two cats can call themselves LBs when they can't even tackle or stand their ground on a hit...Several plays as were reported by the DMN blog went straight at Carpenter and backwards he went


Anyone else missing Fasano right about now?...Bennett doesn't look the part and it's obviously early but gotta wonder how motivated this kid really is...Watching him in the Hard Knocks eppy and seeing Garrett ride him even about tucking a ball away revealed, to me, a guy not taking his profession very seriously.

Tashard Choice might just be just as exciting as Felix.

Love to see a good game from Miles Austin but was there a reason Hurd saw so little action?

Brad Johnson, bad 2nd team OL or not, is not the answer at backup QB...And Bartel?...


Still not seeing much pass pressure and the lack of hitting in camp seemed to carry over into the game as tackling seemed to be in short supply from the team, especially the special teams.

Stanback doesn't look the part of a returner, especially on kickoffs.

Scandrick could be a decent return man as he looks to have good speed but why does he head right into the pile?

Does McBriar have a reason to be concerned?

Might be Carp just looked "solid" compared to Burnett.

I don't think Carp was "bad" last night but he needs to be a lot better then he was. It's year 3, time to put up or shut up.
