First order of business- if Carl Nicks isn't franchised Jerry has to make a serious run at him! Callahan coached him in Nebraska! This is important because i'd rather get a FA guard then draft one at 14 and go through more growing pains.

Second order- Resign Laurent Robinson, Tony Fiametta

FA Signings - Kyle Orton- Perfect back up, could step in and win a couple games if needed. Tried to get him already.

Leron Landry- SS - Only 27 give hm a prove me deal. No more then a two years, have to take a flier on him if healthy.

D'Qwell Jackson or David Hawthorne- ILB- Jackson, 6'1 240 and Hawthorne 6'1 248 both good tacklers. Jackson has played in Rob's system with Cleveland. Either wouldn't be overly exspensive. Not both just one.

So Let's review FA- Nicks,Orton, Landry,Jackson. Resign Robinson,Fiamett

2012 Dallas Cowboys Draft

Courtney Upshaw - Olb - Alabama- 6'2 265
Chase Minnefield - CB - Virginia- 6'0 190
Robert Lester - FS- Alabama - 6'2 210
Dan Herron - RB -Ohio State - 5'10 212
Drew Butler - P - Georgia - 6'2 214
Quenton Washington - CB - South Florida - 5' 10 195
Keshawn Martin - WR/P-KR - Michigan St - 5 '10 190

Gone- Ball,Bennett,Brookings,Buehler,Elam, James, Kitna,McBriar,Newman,Ogletree, Spencer,Walker

Dockery,Holland?????? Possibly on one year deal.

Depth chart- QB- Romo,Orton, McGee
RB- Murray,Jones, Herron
FB - Fiametta
WR- Dez,Miles.Robinson, Holley, Martin
TE- Witten, Phillips
OL-Smith,Nicks,Costa,Kosier,Free
BU-Parnell,kowalski, Dockery, Arkin and Nagy
DE-Spears,Coleman,Hatcher
NT-Rat,Brent,Lissamore
OLB-DWARE,Upshaw,Albright, V.Butler
ILB - Lee,Jackson,Carter,Lemon
CB - Jenkins,Minnefield,Scandrick, M.Butler,Washington
FS - Sensy,Lester,McCray
SS- Landry,Church
K- Bailey
P- D.Butler,Jones?
LS-Ladoucer

Not a bad plan, but instead of going after younger vets at ILB and SS, spend the big(ger) money on CB (2nd rounder would be hard pressed to start right away), center and pass rusher (DE or OLB) instead.

Re-sign Elam for another season & pick up a smaller name/older guy at ILB.

Sorryk but we simply cannot bring Costa and Kosier back as starters. Kosier is done and Costa is just awful.

I wouldn't be against signing Elam again, if Upshaw is gone i'm def picking a Cb with 14,Kirpatrick,Jenoris jenkins or possibly Gilmore. I think our fa needs have to be Nicks if he's not franchised and he is going to cost. I'm just against picking another young Ol in draft and go through growing pains. I also thik Costa,Nagy, arkin will bw better with the year under belt. I just have to take a flier on Landry, but he 's not going to look long term because he has to prove he's healthy..

We really need another pass rusher ASAP. The surest way is through FAs. It takes time for rookies to have an impact and another Spencer/Ekuban pick could totally set back our defense for years and ruin D. Ware's career as well. I would try to sign Robert Mathis, a proven pass rusher and should not cost as much as Cliff Avril or Calais Campbell. Osi is another option.

The draft should be BPA, especially our first pick.

There not letting Campbell go, they've pretty much said that already. Mathis plays in a 4'3 and he is too small to play Olb in a 34 or De in a 34.

If Mathis is not too small to play strongside DE in a 4-3, he is definitely not too small to play 3-4 OLB.

Can he cover is the question. But coverage and setting the edge are secondary to rushing the passer. And we know that Mathis can do that.

I could be wrong but I don't think Carl Nicks cared much for Callahan when they were both at Nebraska

I thouhgt Lester was not coming out. Have you heard differently?

I thought it was yesterday according to McShay.

I read yesterday - I believe it was from Wes Bunting - that Lester is going back to school. There's another safety projected to go pretty high who's also going back, but I can't remember who. That basically leaves Barron and Martin as the the two top tier safeties in the draft. Not much to choose from.
