We saw in the 2nd half of the season how this offense performed without a run game, penalties rose and it basically was a middle of the pack unit. This team was built to score a lot of points, force teams to keep up. Defense isn't good enough to carry this team, at least not yet.

What we witnessed was a similar line that Romo had pre Frederick, post Guorde, very little push within the interior, collapsed pocket with no room to step up. Do I dare remind everyone of the Phil Costa days? The left side struggled with power which led to a Guard leading the league in holding calls and a Center who wasn't far behind. This is the area of weaknesses that has to be fixed.

First order of business is to replace Joe Philbin as the team's OL Coach. I was reading an article on CBS from Patrick Walker, where he suggested to rehire Columbo. It makes a lot of sense, especially with Jerry, going back to his guys. Under Columbo the line was very successful. He would need to hold more accountability, but he is the right type of guy to do so. Shed the zbs and bring back the man power scheme that fits are players better. Collins for example player his best in this scheme under Columbo. His job focus will be about curtailing the penalties and holding players accountable.

How would I fix the personnel? McGovern is going to start at either Center or Left Guard depending which area they are able to address in the draft process. He has the strength and power to be a good fit, he gets in trouble when he is on the move hitting targets. Pre draft we have a line of Tyron Collins McGovern Martin Steele. This is the quick fix for the interior. Perhaps drafting a player like Kenyon Green from Texas A&M in the first rd would make a lot of sense, he could play LG and move Collins back to Tackle. Not getting rid of Tyron unless his play falls off the map, let's hope Ball can serve as a quality spot starter when needed.

What do we do at Tight End? I would move on from Dalton Shultz. He is a terrible inline blocker and is as bad in space. The majority of his catches come off of playaction. I think the combination of McKeon and Jarwin can replace his production, but would like to see the team draft a real option at the position, one one can be a force inline, doesn't have to be schemed to get open. With a good class in the draft, should be hard to find.

Finally, it's time to makes Tony Pollard the primary back, where Zeke becomes more of that short yardage guy who can still be the closer late in games. Still will split the carries, but Pollard will receive more. Tough pill to shallow for Zeke, but it's the best for the team's success and keep him healthy.

Ive compared Biadasz to Costa before. I do believe he is thay caliber of player

However, after seeing his 4 starts, I dont see anyway McGovern is the awnser to anything. I think if you are not moving Collins back to LG, or adding a starting caliber player to the roster, then you are asking for trouble at that position. Being a 3 year pro, I dont expect any dramatic improvement from him

My point is, a realistic expectation they might be able to draft 1 day 1 starter, but probably not two. As for McGovern, he played real well at RG which tells me he is more of a phone boothe player. If you ask him to hit moving targets he will struggle. If you cannot draft a quality center, I would give him the opportunity to compete as the starter. You will not have the same push from the interior.

Was about to make a thread on fixing the O-Line.

1 - Fire the O-Line coach…. I am JJ I tell MM to fire him. Or if he wants I will fire his friend.

2 - Contact Colombo, he may not be the best but knows the old power blocking scheme along with the hand and footwork used. This joker we have now changed something. Even if Colombo was a assistant he will help. He got fired from the giants for a altercation with someone on the staff. Lol

3 - Look for a O-Line coach that’s power blocking and makes nasty players again.

4 - Draft O-Line tackles and guards. Pick up in FA. We have a few like Ball that was hurt. He will be back. I would contact Looney also, he has some years on him but can still play. He retired when we didnt offer him a contract and JG took him, he spent one practice at the giants and realized they suck and left..

5 - Let Williams go. He is not going to work.

We need players and coaching. I really believe most of the problem this year was coaching and scheme.

Draft a center early even 1st rd. Collins to guard and Steele to RT. McGovern is backup G, Biadaz is backup C and we have Ball and find someone else not named Nsheke to be a swing T. I feel that easy to fix line, plus I would get a new OL coach these guys got worse as season went on.

I do not disagree with anything you are saying but I would caution you on Collins. First off he is an unreliable piece of trash. Second he already cried to his daddy so that he could play tackle. Are you sure that daddy will make big baby play guard? He usually lets his babies do what they want.

Including letting completely washed Zeke continue to eat valuable runningback touches and rarely do anything with them.

I believe the coaching was part of the problem but also the talent up front, a one legged Zeke and being the worst in committing penalties. Not worried so much about Left Guard as they could always move Collins back inside, but really need to upgrade the center position. Our OL was struggling prior to drafting Frederick and even more now after his retirement. Think to find a quality center, the line gets better right away.

Drafting the Texas A&M lineman who keep Collins at Right Tackle and have Steele as his backup.

I like your thoughts on this. What are your thoughts on this:

Smith-Collins-Farniok-Martin-Steele, with Columbo as OC.
or
Smith-McGovern-Farniok-Martin-Collins

That’s why I wish we kept Looney. He went to giants and realized they suck and retired. Wonder if he would come back for depth.

Colombo as O-Line coach he took over with a retired Houck helping half of JG last year and our O-Line was much better after a game. He brings nasty and mean to a O-Line.

Draft Kenyon Greene from Texas A&M.

Sign veteran Center.

If the TEN TOE SLOTH at QB can't fix his issues with his late reads on the defenses he's facing or finding open receivers & TEs in a timely manner, then we're all doomed as Cowboy Fans. The Sloth is too slow at everything he does in the pocket and the DCs in the league have all caught on. This is the reason they're all daring the Sloth to throw the ball and beat them through the air. Hell, this is the reason they're stacking the box with ELEVEN PLAYERS, WHICH MEANS nobody is covering receivers and TEs and the Sloth STILL WON'T THROW THE BALL......HA-HAAAAAA! One other thing, I think brining back Columbo is a GREAT idea. This dude was a mean and nasty lineman who had some good years with the Boys and when he was a coach here he did a great job working with the O-Line, YES BRING HIM BACK!

- i'm not against a zone block scheme - if it's schemed, designed and taught well out and we have the player personnel to run it. If i'm not mistaken, wasn't ex-OL coach Frank Pollack who ran the
2016 great OL unit, also a proponent of the zone block scheme ? (from Bill Callahan OL tree?)

- I still would want a new, more innovative OC and run game designer than leaving it up to Kellen.
I would not want Kellen to continue dictating how we will be running the ball, whether man or zone blocking scheme.
To me, it’s more than just running it up the middle gut and delay handoffs out of the shotgun formation. Its easy to sniff out his tendencies and run designs so predictably bland and simple.

- Lack of misdirection and deception, not committed to occasionally setting the edges - ala the Pollard TD run vs saints on a pitch sweep, how often did we see that edge run play
in the entire season, much less begging Kellen to please try more to get the speedy Pollard on the outside edges.

- As down on Zeke as i am, i'm not ready to proclaim Pollard as our primary, featured back. Its' a difference between a featured back vs a change of pace one. And a lot depends upon what
kind of back and style you want in your attack. But there's no question with me, that we really need 2 very effective productive RBs that virtually shares the reps, touches and carries.

Putting out cigarettes in ketchup is awesome.
Why is my avatar a fried turkey? I mean I like it but don't you start with Rowdy?

And from all reports prior to his dismissal with the Cowboys, Columbo wasn't particular please to find out that McCarthy wasn't bringing him back, and instead hiring his buddy from the GB days
to replace him.

i heard that MM did not meet formally talk person to person with Columbo to inform him of the OL coach move, Marc was told the news from an outside source.
and personally tried to find MM without avail.

So would there be still bad blood between MM and Columbo ?
