My post draft takes

I have a slightly different take on the draft which many people here will not like

In the end, what is the objective of the draft? Acquire talent to make the team better

So, yes, draft is about talent acquisition but there is a reason teams have tiers, because need’ has to factor in somewhat

In isolation, i think we had a very very good draft. The players in the top rounds have the potential to be really really good. My problems are below

Booker: very good player, not worth #12. Wr dont have a LT or a RT and we are loading up on OGs. Not going to “bully” anybody if our LT and RT are weak links. The only way this pick makes any sense is if we plan to move Smith to LT. Otherwise it would have been way better to move down to 25 and take Simmons

EZ: very very good player and talent. Great for a team that has a real DE opposite him. If EZ and Parsons are the 2 DEs on the field with Mazi and Osa on 2nd or 3rd and 5-7, as the opposing OC, im running at them everyday if im a good run team like Pilly or GB or Detroit or SF. So, EZ can spell Parsons but at least this year and probably next few years he and Micah will be on the field together very little unless Micah lines up at LB

Revel: great pick if he comes back healthy

Blue: lot of potential but not a 3 down RB. If hes on the field, the defense knows its a pass play most likely. If you run him a lot you will injure him or wear him down

More dart throwing at 1T DT

No #2 WR
No real 1T DT
No true RB

Good players? Yes

This is the kind if draft that can be great for a team that is active in FA
Great draft for this team? Not really
It can never be a great draft with their FA strategy. If they go WR at 12 then they may have a hole at OG. If they go RB at 44, they may not get a legit edge rusher.

They always have more needs than premium picks. Their strategy solely rests upon some late rounder or the cheap JAGs they sign far exceeding their expectations.

Agreed
The true failure is one of incompetence and nepotism

My biggest issue is that they did very little this entire offseason to help their biggest weakness to helping their run defense. Adding a late NT in a loaded class doesn’t move the needle
Yes. sir. In a draft where there really isnt an excuse for not getting some run help at DT . But I am very happy with who we got and dont know who id give up for that run stopper. I guess we pray for some current guys to mature and develop for this season

In my opinion, they should have prioritized fixing their run defense is offseason, but they decided to fix their run game.

The problem is ,is that we are not serious players in free agency.
All Teams improve through the draft.
Some teams improve through the draft and free agency, we are not one of them.
It puts us at a competative disadvantage.
Its frustrating as a fan of this team to see this.

but once again if you read their claims about Mazi it was more about pass rush then it was stopping the run.
I doubt they don’t ever take high NT’s as they don’t value the position, same goes for the safety position

He is never going to be all that as a run defender.
NT is a separate position and the morons in the front office have ignored the reality that your NT MUST DEFEND THE RUN. Pass rush is NOT AS IMPORTANT. We have suffered literally a decade plus of ignoring that FACT.
They weren't even smart enough to notice that our D was a full YPC better vs the run when Hankins played.

I mean, they just can't be this dumb!!!

LIke Marinelli and his quick twitch mania, the morons in the Front Office think everyone has to be a pass rusher on the line. Yeah, in a perfect world they are both.
But we do not have anyone of the quality of the great D lines of the past.

NO ONE as good as Lett even. Let alone the greats like Lilly and Manster.

We do not even have a russel maryland.
The top NTs rush the passer by collapsing the pocket so others can get the sacks. Football 101 stuff.

I get your point about the Eagles but put Mazi and Osa in a rotation with Carter and they would look mighty different as well. Then gives us Davis and Williams. I don’t see a difference.
Yup, might different, like glued to the bench different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some good picks but not enough. We have too many holes on this roster and I'm concerned the improvements we did make--at OL and pass rush--won't cover up for how bad we are at run defense and passing the ball.

I really don't like the starters we have at RB and WR.

It is amazing how this team loves the OL in the first found but then constantly ignores the DL.

We can't develop mid- and later-round picks on the OL, but at DT that's all we try to do.
You didn't like the DE pick? the Toia pick? pretty solid picks to me regardless of where they came from. Hey we will see how it turns out. I do get the always Olinemen first argument, but I am personally ok with it this time.

And a ton of that relates directly back to bad drafting, especially in the 2nd round. We have holes because we drafted Kelvin/Mazi/Schooner/Trysten/Sam Williams(Who may still pan out.). That's quite simply way too many misses high in the draft.

I know Eze is a good pick and good rusher, but a 248 lb 43 DE isn't going to be much against the run. I really like the NT, but he was a seventh rounder and pretty much a run-only player.

Some day I'd like to get some high picks at DT, good everydown type players that offenses have to account for, not just guys filling a role.
