My prediction involving Mike McCarthy

So, as we know, Mike McCarthy is not coming back. We heard that he has received interest from Chicago and New Orleans. If he goes to Chicago, this could be very bad for Jerry Jones. I know it sounds ridiculous, but let me explain my prediction on where I think the Cowboys go next, my prediction involving Mike McCarthy, and my rationale. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. I really do. However, this has been brewing and lingering in my head since McCarthy's departure was officially announced.

Firstly, I must take us back to 2019. Remember how we were clamoring for a coach with expertise and who knew what he was doing? We wanted a break from Garrett and the whole puppetry that Jerry gave us with Jason Garrett? Well, my concern at the time (which I didn't say much of openly, partly because I was a younger and much different Rusty then who has come along way since 2019) was that he'd hire a coach who fit what we wanted but would basically be nothing more than a training ground for Garrett 2.0. In came McCarthy who fit, to an extent, what we wanted as an experienced coach who has a Lombardi. Weirdly, it was fitting to have a coach who won a SB in our building becoming our HC. Problem is, Jerry Jones kneecapped him at so many opportunities, especially this offseason. Kellen Moore getting ushered in way too early to being our OC. It feels like Kellen Moore was and is being groomed to be Jason Garrett 2.0, even to the point where Jerry sabotaged Mike McCarthy. So, as far as where I think the Cowboys go next, I think Jerry will hire Kellen Moore as HC to be his "new and improved" Jason Garrett. Once that happens, magically, we will start spending on free agents, a luxury Mike McCarthy was seldom afforded. However, you can guess where I think our record ends up being with us missing the playoffs.

Secondly, I think it would be a disaster for Jerry Jones if Mike McCarthy goes to Chicago. Given how good Mike McCarthy is at developing QBs, he'd be the perfect coach to teach Caleb Williams how to be an NFL Head Coach. I think, if Aaron Rodgers wants to play one more year, he would go to Chicago on a one year deal as a favor to Mike McCarthy where he'd start and would help teach Caleb Williams McCarthy's system. Yes, he has a system. AJ Hawk, on the Pat McAfee Show, said a week or two ago how Mike McCarthy expects the QB to know presnap where to go with the ball. Given the wr room, the defence, and the do that's willing to spend money, McCarthy would be in a better situation. I think Green Bay will not be as good next year as they were this year and last year. I think Jordan Love got exposed yesterday against Philly. I predict that they will go oline in FA (perhaps Zach Martin for one) and draft Jeanty to add to their weapons. I think the Bears, with McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers will end up in the playoffs as the 3rd place team in 2025 (including a win against us when we play them in Chicago) and will play Quinn's Commanders (who I think will win the division in 2025). The ultimate slap to the face of Jerry Jones.

Before I give my rationale, I should make clear and reiterate that I very much hope that I'm wrong with what I'm predicting. I genuinely hope that I'm wrong. I genuinely hope we are competitive and win the division next year. However, I can't help but have this concern/prediction in my head. So, I should give a rationale. Firstly, I think McCarthy chooses Chicago over New Orleans. He knows that division well. He always matches up well against Minnesota (dating back to when he coached in Green Bay). He will naturally want to play against the Packers. Also, we play Chicago at their place next year. New Orleans finished 4th and are in cap hell. We finished 3rd. So, he'd be hamstrung with a bad salary cap in New Orleans, and he wouldn't get an opportunity to try to stick it to Jerry if he goes New Orleans. No, it would be much more logical for him to go to Chicago.

As for Rodgers, I think he persuades Rodgers to go to Chicago for one year to teach Caleb and get an opportunity to go out in a better fashion than he did with the Jets. He'd be reunited with a coach he knows and a system he knows well. It would be like Favre going to Minnesota, but even better for Rodgers, given the weapons Chicago already has. Caleb is raw. The Bears, unlike the Cowboys, actually spend in FA and aren't afraid (even if it doesn't work) to try to sign players. So, McCarthy would probably have more say with the Bears FO than he would here. To me, McCarthy to Chicago makes too much sense. Aaron Rodgers to Chicago makes a lot of sense. Rodgers would help Caleb Williams learn the QB position and McCarthy's system all too well. All in all, the prediction makes almost too much sense.

The reason it would be disastrous for Jerry (if he cares) if it goes as I predict is because I think the Cowboys finish 3rd next year, while his former HC and DC (who I think we would have wanted to replace Mike) would be playing a playoff game against each other. Both would have taken decrepit franchises to the playoffs. I genuinely hope my prediction is a million miles off, but this thought and prediction has been brewing and lingering since McCarthy was officially announced as being out. It just feels......real...
