Can Pickens be tagged and traded next year?

If Pickens shuts his mouth and doesn’t cause locker room issues, he has a much better shot at the bag than complaining about not getting enough targets to bump his numbers.

Hopefully he realizes that. Shoddy seriously does not need that headache. Jerry is plenty enough.

Our roster was loaded before Pickens. He will be lucky to make the team and here we are talking about what to do with him next season.

Why would you say that? If “ with this player “ you mean that he will be hard to deal with, wouldn’t trading him be preferable to resigning him. I’m not stating my preference, I’m asking about the best possible options
It's definitely an option but it would be a big headache

You can ATTEMPT to do that...but the main thing everyone here never remembers is that the OTHER team has to agree to the deal in the wacky trade proposals people here throw out against the wall (Dak for multiple 1's, broken down Zeke for a 2, worthless TE Schloopmaker for a 2, just to name a hilarious few examples I've seen here).

You can ATTEMPT to do that, just like you can ATTEMPT to trade Daky for three 1sts, before the reality that no team would make that deal hits you.

We just paid a 3rd rounder and a 5th rounder for a 1 year rental. THATS the reality, and what will happen.
Bingo.

Exactly.......no team trades a 3rd round thinking ONLY 1 year. They are hoping a change in scenery and a new team will clean up the issues the player has had, enough to stay for X amount of time.
You are forgetting this is the same brain trust that brought you such master strokes as the Lance and Mungo deals. They're incompetent.

If Pickens has a strong season, Cowboys would extend him rather to see if they could get better compensation for what they acquired him for. Now if they determined, he priced himself off the roster, then that could be a possibility. I think the Cowboys have all intentions of making this more then just a 1yr rental but want to see how things play out first.
Absolutely, they can get at least a year out of him, then trade him if they want for more than they paid.

Some are being way to pessimistic about this.

I figure it is one of many possibilities and until the season plays out it really only conversation. But when I made the post I’ll I heard was best case scenario we get a 3 comp back. And that does sound like the best case scenario. I liked Pickens coming out of college. My best case scenario is he plays superior and gets resigned.

If Pickens plays up to his potential/expectations, with out past years drama during his contact year, is tagging and trading him for #1 an option?
Let me see if i have this right. He plays up to potential/expectations - a 24 year old player - you want to tag him and trade him.

So you take a player you tagged, which means he's still here, then trade him for a possible 1st round pick. You have a guy that lives up to his potential, and then want to trade him away for a possible.

I bet you "hit me" on 20 in blackjack.

I would learn how to read before responding! Where did you read I want to trade Pickens? Or did you read the word Can in the post?
