I had a similar problem with AT&T just the other day about a bill I received the other day for uverse. I bundle all my service through them and apparently Uverse (internet) can't because the TV has not come to my are. I talked to other people and they say that fiber optics are coming soon and no more DSL. Any way after complaining he waived a couple of fees for me but I still have to pay two separate bill.
I changed to AT&T becasue I use to have Charter cable but they turned my cable off on me even though I paid the bill. They told me they sent a letter notifying me of a bill not fully paid. The problem was they sent it on March 4th which I promptly asked how they could since the mail doesn't come on Sundays at least in the continental US. The service person told me that I could pay with a credit card in which I did. He then asked me if I would like 9-1 or 1-5 on Monday (cable turned off on Friday) in which I asked him if he the company turned my cable off when I was not here? He said yes and then I told him then you guys can turn my cable on when I am not here, right? They did. As it turns out my bank made a computer error and they check bounced. I have since left that bank and cable. Hang in there.
