First off I have us trading down from 18 to the 26-28 range and picking up an extra 3rd. I then have a PIPEDREAM of trading Glover for a 4th. Heres the draft.....Round 1.Bobby Carpenter "as an INSIDE L.B" Round 2...Right tackle Jeremy Trueblood. 3 A...O.L.B Stanley Mc'clover 3B...N.T Jonathan Lewis. Round 4...F.B Matt Bernstein and round 5....W.R Jonathon Orr. Didnt list 6 and 7. Thats all poke and hope anyway...LOL Would be happy to draft a pair of safties there.

Freeagency...FIRST thing im doing is cutting Larry Allen. GREAT player but his time is WELL past. Players signed...O.LB Julian Peterson. Lecharles Bentley "BUT im using him at guard where he can really dominate" A.J will rebound from Injury just watch. Safety...Corey Chavous. Thats it. Done. Unless we can bring in a kicker half way reasonable.

Lets see the defense....L.E Spears N.T Ferguson R.E Ellis/Canty OLB..Peterson ILB Carpenter ILB James OLB Ware C.B Newman C.b Henry S..Chavous S Williams. New offensive line looks like this...L.T...Flo G Bentley C Johnson G Rivera T Trueblood. Now plug in a SLEDGEHAMMER of a fullback in Bernstein and were SET!

wow -- if we wanted a sledgehammer FB we should never have gotten rid of Jamar Martin.

there you go Hayseed -- I just guaranteed your post 4 pages with that addition.

....lmao. :laugh2: We do need a punishing blocker in the backfield though. Polite's just A GUY. Nuthin special. Bernstein is a LIGHTS OUT hitter. He really is. the guy loves contact. Would be nice in those critical 3rd and short situations.

I'll tell you what else would help in those critical 3rd and short situations...............an offensive line that can push somebody back.

Seriously, I wouldn't mind a punishing blocker, but some teams don't even use fullbacks and they can get a 3rd and 1 easy.

Agreed. But picture this as our Oline next year. A healthy Flo, Bentley in L.A's old spot, a healthy Johnson and Rivera, and a mammoth Trueblood at Right tackle. Now add Bernstein and those 3rd downs turn into 1sts at a much higher percentage. It all starts up front. BTW...Boy did we get dinged on the O.L last year. Flo was out completley and Rivera and Johnson BOTH hung on thru injury but it really hurt their play.

A punishing FB just doesn't fit into the offense that BP wants to run -- which is kinda funny since most folks assume he's a grind it out kind of coach. that sort of FB is a luxury -- he wouldn't get on the field much so unless he can play ST very well, that isn't a direction I see us going.

I think we could get a 2nd round pick if we trade that low into the first.

Does ANYONE understand that Polite rushed exactly TWICE last year and caught a whopping NINE passes. ALL YEAR. Oh yeah, the F.B position really brought alot of versatility to us last year...LOL If its gonna be that way we might as well just bring in the big hammer to block in Bernstein. WAYYYY better blocker than Polite and im betting he gets more than 2 rushes and nine receptions. ALOT more than 2 rushes. More like 20.

only if someone like Lendale White fell. Otherwise nobody would care enough to get up there. #18 doesn't look to be that great a spot right now -- not much difference between the top17-27ish players really.

Polite didn't do much because the offensive we run doesn't really use a FB. Anderson played FB but was much more of a tailback - and he wasn't exactly a lead blocker type.

I think there are better FBs than Polite -- lots of them -- but for how we use the FB it doesn't make much difference.

Bentley will not go to a team that want's him to play guard, he want's to play center and he would have his pick of suitors.

Peterson will be tagged.

Chavous is a possibility.

So why has he expressed an interest in Cleveland -- a team that has a good center who isn't going anywhere in Jeff Faine?

Because if he goes to Cleveland he will play center, he has stated he does not want to play guard.

What I have seen come out of Cleveland is they are already thinking about what they would do with Faine if Bentley was brought in, because they know they would be bringing him in to play center.

Releasing Allen would free up enough space to sign Bentley AND another good player.

Do YOU understand that this is not the Cowboys of the midninties. There is not going to be any Johnston clone in Dallas. Why dont you talk about running the flex or a lot of shotgun while your at it?

Ten years and epople are still saying this drivel.

Now you are just talking crazy talk -- everyone knows that nobody talks about the Browns, so how could there be any talk coming out of Cleveland.

Bentley is from Cleveland. He already stated to many people that he was going home. Cleveland his his first choice, but New Orleans already said they would use the franchise tag on him if he couldn't agree to a long term contract.

Im sorry but thats just STUPID IMO. So what its not the mid nineties. Winning football NEVER goes out of date. The formula has NEVER changed. RUN the ball, STOP the run. THAT is what wins. WHY NOT have a real fullback who can help you accomplish those goals. Or I guess we can stick with Polite and his TWO carries and NINE receptions all year and have a dead spot on offense. Real smart to have 8 % of your starting offense contribute almost NOTHING. BRILLIANT. I hardly think that is BP's plan. And if it is for some strange reason then he too should be run out of town on a rail.

The thing is, we don't use the FB much in the way of lead block in Parcells' offense. I would be more for a hybrid type FB/TE who can run/catch and block some.

Jeremy Trueblood is SEVERELY overrated... in fact, no offensive lineman at the Senior Bowl was more consistently abused by the defensive linemen in attendance than Trueblood was... if you want a good value in the second round, look at the likes of Ryan O'Callaghan (perfect skillset for a RT) or Andrew Whitworth... both are FAR superior to Trueblood...

Further, Al Johnson is a liability in the running game at center, the guy is simply neither big enough nor strong enough to do battle with 350 pound nose tackles...

And there are rumors that the Saints will franchise Bentley, rendering that element of your master plan a pipe dream as well...
