I have 4 fantasy players on the Vikings team, so needless to say, I watch a lot of Vikes games. In fact, I think I've only missed one game this year. Here's what I know about them....
When this team is hot, they are almost unbeatable. But if this team plays like they've played the last month (minus the Giants game where the Giants didn't even show up to play), almost anyone can beat them.

They are 8-0 at home, and are very good.

Favre.....has very little mobility anymore, nowhere near what we had to deal with in McNabb. If you can get pressure up the middle, Favre really struggles to move laterally.

Bryant McKinnie has struggled lately, and even got yanked out of the game after letting Peppers look all world.

The interesting thing is Childress never gives him help. Doesn't line up a TE or use a RB to chip. He's all alone on an island. It makes no sense.

The WR's are good, but I don't know if they are significantly better than Phillys. They do like to work over the middle alot, and Rice can even be deadly down the sideline.

Getting pressure on Favre, up the middle and on the edge will be key in shutting down their wideouts. You can fluster Favre at this stage of his career. You can tell he has no desire to take a hit.

Peterson......needs no introduction. HOwever, his Oline has been garbage for him in the last couple of months. He consistantly runs into the back of his Olineman as there is nowhere else for him to go. To combat this, the vikes have been running him outside alot. But with the speed of Ware, Spencer and our LB's, we should be able to get there in time to prevent the big plays. Gap control is paramount against this kid. He isn't a threat out of the backfield to catch the ball, as his hands aren't very good.

When you see Chester Taylor come into the game, they generally use him to pass protect, and he can be deadly out of the backfield catching passes. Watch the screens when he comes in, cause they are coming.

Defensively....

Jared Allen, Jared Allen, Jared Allen. The guy is a beast with an unrelenting motor. Flo will struggle against him, and I expect us to use a TE or a RB to help.
The Williams wall is very tough too. The only prayer you have to run the ball is speed. You have to hit the line at full speed in order to get it past them. I don't see barber being very effective running against them as he doesn't have the burst of Felix or Choice to try to get it past the Williams wall.

Their corners and safeties were very good earlier in the year, but lately they have struggled. Most big plays against them come when they are asked to cover for more than 3 seconds. Romo's escapability will be key in this. If he can buy some extra time scrambling, they're secondary will have breakdowns.

They aren't very good at covering the middle of the field since EJ Henderson went down, and I expect Witten to have a field day.

Childress.......I just don't feel as if this guy is a good coach, and can get flustered and do stupid things in pressure situations. I don't think he's maximized Petersons ability so far in his career, and sometimes I just don't think he's ready for big time games. Hopefully he will do something stupid.

I know it's an entirely different situation, but I remember Favre's lack of mobility being an issue in our '07 matchup against the Packers. In fact, I think we knocked Favre out of the game (Rodgers subsequently came in and gave the Packers nearly a chance to win).

I think lack of mobility is a lethal attribute for any quarterback going against our defense. If McNabb wasn't mobile, imagine how many sacks we would have had against him?

Again...........put pressure on Favre he will make mistakes.

Peterson will get his but him hard and hit him often and he will also put the ball on the ground.

This game will come down to the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Great analysis, thank you. I only watched a few Vikings games this year, the two Packer games and the 49ers game. Favre still has a fantastic arm and he read defenses well, but it's clear that we can get to him. Like all quarterbacks, once you lay a few hits on him his game changes.

I see the early line on the game is Vikings by 2 1/2. I do think this will be a close game. But the Cowboys are just playing so well right now

If you look historically over the past decade, the biggest indicator of whether a team is going to go deep into the playoffs is the momentum they had going in. The Giants' game aside, the Vikings took some bad losses to mediocre teams.
