Dallas probably did overpay for Cooper, but thats what happens when youre on the receiving end of the player. The same thing happens when you dip into FA, you overpay.

I really like this trade. The first point about Amari that i love is the guy doesnt have any attitude what so ever. He knows his job and does it.

Secondly, he's a #1. He can stretch the field, Which Dallas was leaning on Beasley to do. Alot of people say Beasley was open on deeper routes, and yes he was. But theres a problem with that pass to him, which we have seen over and over. He will drop the pass alot because of the impending hit. Amari allows Beasley to play strictly in the slot where he is at his best. Amari and Gallup on the outside and Beasley in the slot if formidable.

What i have seen with fans is they dont like a trade unless its the person they want.

This puts focus on Dak, and i think its needed. Challenge the young QB and see if he is truly is the future of this team. This shows that the team knew there was a problem with the Wr core. Despite what twitter says or Allen Hurns says. an occassional open WR that Dak missed doesnt remotely tell us that WRs are consistently open. Watch a game can tell you that just isnt so. But Cooper gives Dallas a establish guy who knows how to get open. So Dak is gonna have to show he can get it there and get wins. Or with 70mil in cap room this offseason i think Jerry goes after a vet QB. Forget about rush or White those guys are trash.

What this does more importantly to this offense is open things up for Elliot. There were plays where Washington had 10 in the box, thats insane to think about. With Dallas on a bye this week it give the team time to get Cooper up to speed and gives him time to get over his concussion. Which i dont think is a issue or the trade wouldnt have happened.

Amari is only 24 and has been a probowler twice in his young career. Trading an unproven #1 draft pick for a proven #1 receiver is a no-brainer. This was not an over-payed scenirio unless occurs or a suspension is looming.

Did I mention he is only 24.

Outside of Beasley and an unproven Gallup this receiver corp just plain stinks. Hurns has not produced, looks like an old man when he runs and does not get his head around. Tavon is injured. Amari gives the offense a legitimate weapon.

I love that McClay wanted this receiver. The defense looks top 5 and if the offense can get the train-wreck back on the tracks the rails will lead to the SuperBowl.

Did I mention he is only 24.

Amari is also like Thielen in that he also plays in the slot a lot. We may have to start running with 2 slot receivers in 4 wide sets. OMG Dak might have to make more than 1 read before he lets it rip!

Agree with everything you said except one thing. I already know for fact, Dak is not the future of this team. Cooper is a league premium WR. Top 4 as he progresses. But he is a possession receiver. IE, he positions himself and fights for the ball. Dak needs ten yards of separation with his accuracy and failure to read to even consider throwing the ball. Cooper is a, "just throw me the dang ball already, I'll get it" type guy. Like Irvin etc. Dak is not the QB for that setup.

Don't sell Dak Prescott so short. The team has just been 're-made' and he is just in year 3...

Great post, you see that in the writeups on Cooper - that Carr would just throw the ball as far as he could and Cooper could run under it. Do that once or twice and you will never again see the safeties selling out the run like they did for the entire game on Sunday.

I guess we'll find out, but doesn't it concern you at all that Cooper has averaged under 50 yards per game the last two seasons? That he had 3 games this year where he was held to under 20 yards - that's in 6 games. In those 3 games he had 4 catches. Now, you're going to say well those games he was double teamed, or Carr wasn't protected, or Oakland is a run first offense. Probably all true. But they will also be true in Dallas, except Carr is a more accurate thrower than Dak.

Its true, Cooper is young. He is just a little older than some of the WRs in the 2019 draft. But he is also in the 4th year of his rookie deal. The Cowboys will pick up his option and pay him $14 million in 2019. Then he becomes a free agent. What if he get sick and tired of being open and Dak not seeing him? or the OL not giving Dak time to find him? and he leaves via free agency? Then that first round pick looks like a bust. If this team really believes in building through the draft then giving up a first round pick for a player who does not produce sets the team back even further. But, maybe Cooper plays better than he did in Oakland.

For me, its not about Cooper. Its about Jerry getting snookered into giving up more than he got in return or more than he had to give. Does anyone really believe that nonsense about the Eagles willing to trade for Cooper? Maybe they were but I bet the Raiders contacted them and the Eagles were only willing to give up a 4th or maybe a 3rd. Then the Raiders told Jerry the Eagles are interested.

Cooper sounds good in a 3 WR set of Cooper, Beasely and Gallup. Throw in TWill or Hurns for a 4 WR set and you have a pretty good group. No one can deny that. For me its about the #1 draft pick. It tells me Jerry thinks he is one player away. It tells me he is either not aware of the OL woes or he is ignoring it hoping all the talent at the skill positions will make up for it. My answer is, look at the NY Giants. They have more talent at WR, TE and now RB than Dallas and they are 1-6. Why? Because their offensive line can't block anyone. The Cowboys OL on the road is only marginally better than the Giants right now. Believing that Amari Cooper, or Jerry Rice for that matter, will make a difference is foolish.

Worse, it tells me Jerry thinks the problem is his WRs and not his coach. If Cooper doesn't produce wins, Jerry will argue its because he was new and needs time to learn the play book and develop a rapport with Dak. He will argue Garrett needs another year with better players around Dak. And the saga just goes on and on.

Watch Gallup regress from here on until he is unceremoniously let loose in a few years.

I ask this question, what if he offered a 2nd round pick and that's it? What if Oakland said no way and the Cowboys stood pat? They will end up with the same record, IMO, they will have with Cooper. Because they have other problems. The Cowboys are not winning the SB this year, with or without Cooper. The draft pick they gave away will probably be around 12 and I find it hard to believe they could not find a player at that position that could help this team, then sign a WR in Free Agency. After all, Cooper will be a free agent in 2020.

The "only 24" aspect is important if the team can extend Cooper, but for now Cooper is only committed until he is 25.

I think this trade gives us a weapon on the outside allowing bease to be more of a safety valve for dak instead of the main guy.

With Gallup starting to make plays, the addition of cooper, the reliable bease, a speedy Austen, our receiving corps gives optimism if nothing else.

Comes at a good timing with the injury to our only reliable te. Haven’t checked up on him since the game but the injury didn’t look good.

i can respect this post, but you dont live on the westcoast. Us here have to endure Raider and Niner games every week. And ill tell you Carr isnt the same QB pre injury. He either lost some stability or he just dont trust his leg yet and doesnt get under his throws.

And i think the biggest issue with him now is, he is not the QB for Grudens system. Its no secret Grudens system is complex and probably one of the most complex. Carr is a quick pass route QB. Spread you out type QB. Has been since highschool. In college it was that x2. Theres no secret why everybody is struggling in OAK. they have a team full of players who were drafting to play a certain style of football while gruden is basically the polar opposite of what they were built for. Carr's days in a Raider uniform are numbered. Expect him to be traded this offseason.

I dont like this draft for what Dallas needs. This draft is DL heavy. I love what Dallas has on the DL. And ill remind you Dallas is going to have around 70mil in cap room. Dallas is already the youngest team in the nfl. What they need is some leadership and veterans mixed in.

Cooper Added
Bring in Earl
a TE if needed

And you have alot going for this team. Alot of people say they KNOW Dak isnt the future. When he had a complete offense he had a great rookie season. Last yr was filled with injuries and ur elite RB gone for 6 weeks, and this yr you start the yr with releasing ur top Wr ur HOF TE and ur all pro C. Add in a rookie LG and ur LT starting out rusty and you people KNOW Dak is the problem, while in thread not about Dak fans are talking about these issues being a problem, but these same posters wont even mention them gripes in a thread where Dak is mentioned.

Cant live on both sides of the fence.

If Dak is still doing this after a few games with Cooper and the offense is balanced then off with his head. But i cant blame him for the mess he was dealt. People say other teams do it with injuries and lesser players. Yes thats when coaching comes into play aswell. Another spot fans on this forum gripe about until it involves the QB.

Until Dak can show he can actually throw the ball to Cooper, teams will stack the LOS.

One of my absolute favorite reads. Over and over.
You're a CZ treasure and, please, keep doing what you're doing.

There's four issues here:

1. How do you explain the lack of production over the last year and a half? He dropped off a cliff.
2. You aren't going to be paying him #1 draft pick money. You are going to be paying him Sammy Watkins type money.
3. Dak has shown an inability to set his feet and be accurate down the field consistently. This is a big problem.
4. I don't trust this offensive coordinator to use Cooper's strengths and revitalize his career.

That isn't a good combination for trading away a future #1, IMO.
