My Thoughts 2.7

Just do it. Whats Jerry going to do fire you if youre winning?

How will he do it? Kellen would have to agree to it. EVERYONE there knows the power structure so unless every single coach (and player involved) there decided to risk their job and do it, then it's not going to happen.

Things have settled and the coaching staff will all be back in 2022. For good or bad we know who will be here. I hate the dolphins, ill just put that out there.

I'll say this if McCarthy really wants to become a leader to this team, he would put the clamps on Moore, wether the Jones' like it or not. The way the better players and teams in the NFL recognize the tendencies of Moore should make this team realize he needs help. Its frustrating that Jerry wouldnt go after a coach that wants more control. Thats the only thing i dont like about him.

My thoughts on Amari and Lawrence, is let them go. Outright release you eat 25mil in dead money mostly from Lawrence and save 22mil. But you're free and clear beyond 2022. I really like Amari but it just seems like this team is tired of him in a sort of way. Lawrence i like too, but he's always hurt. Ask him to take a paycut or release him is what i say. You lose Lawrence but they have Parsons who was playing there when Lawrence was out anyways. With the cap you would be able to sign Armstrong.

Tyron Smith has been paid 98mil over his career, and since 2016 he's never played more than 13 games. Its time to ask for him to take a paycut aswell. Try and get his caphit to arouns 10mil
Anthony Brown, trade him and you save 5mil. He had a ok yr but when teams needed first downs they went to him and usually got them. Id want to see Joseph starting in 2022 with Lewis in the slot. And draft another CB.

Cut Zuerlein plain and simple.

With these changes you'd have 30mil in cap space.

With this you could resign players. Keep in mind this team really likes to keep that first yr of new deals low. So signing guys wouldnt be a problem.

MY preference in Dallas' FA's
1. Jayron Kearse
2. Randy Gregory
3. Michael Gallup
4. Dorance Armstrong
5. Dalton Schultz
6. Cedric Wilson
7. Malik Hooker

I dont think any of them will break the bank, and i really dont expect them to do much in Free agency anyways.

Ultimately i dont expect this team to be muh different next yr from what it was this yr in terms of personel. I really doubt that both Cooper and Lawrence will be gone, and theres a good chance both are back.

The OL should be tinkered with Collins going back to LG and Steele getting the start at RT. That would make Biadasz less of a liability having Collins and Martin inside for help. Dallas struggled with LG and C being a problem. Early it wasnt so much of a problem but then Collins was inserted and all the changes came and then Tyrons yearly injury made the OL a mess. Id like to see Ball get some snaps this offseason at LT so the team atleast knows what they got in him. I think Alarcon might take a step this yr. Its crazy that this coaching staff never once considered moving Collins back inside this yr with all the troubles they had.

Great post....Dont no why the Coaches didnt stick with Collins at LG in the first place. Makes me wonder if Collins has something in his contract that says he only plays a specific position....or he went to Jerry to get his way....

I pretty much posted the same thing over a week ago.
This is the same guy that, no matter how he played, win or lose, he would find a way to bash Romo in every game write-up back in the day.
No exceptions....and relentless.

And he labels his threads as if this is some major football mind sharing his thoughts.
Uh...no.

Sounds like he just copied you stuff here, anyway.

What about after June 1st?

Again, if you designate them both as June 1 cuts, you still have to carry their cap hits until June 1. In other words, making both June 1 cuts doesn't help you get under the cap and give you cap space for the start of FA.

The main fear I have in cutting DLaw is there’s not another DE on this team who can play the run physically, and he rushes well from inside. But he is definitely overpaid.

The main fear I have in cutting Cooper is that he’s the only guy on the team who has proven he can get open in man coverage most of the time. You cut Cooper, and suddenly you are relying on Moore’s scheming more than ever. I feel the real problem is how we use Cooper. If Moore is going to keep using him as just another guy on the field, then cut him yesterday! Moore fell in love with Lamb and his play designs and started using a 20 million dollar receiver the same as the #2 and #3. When we treated Cooper as a true #1 go-to guy, he responded big time when healthy. He was destroying defenses, putting up big numbers, scoring long TDs.

Cooper is so much better than Lamb when healthy that it’s not funny, but if you are not going to make him a go-to guy and design the pass game around him like you did previously, then cut him and stop wasting money, but I’m not convinced we will like what we see.

Cooper will have three more highly productive seasons. It might as well be at Dallas.

Us fans and even the media, should not confuse change with intelligent transitions.

No receiver group in the NFL, can compete with Amari Cooper, Cee Dee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Cedrick Wilson...period. Now throw in a pair of strong tight ends, Dalton Schultz - Blake Jarwin, as well as Tony Pollard...and that is intense dynamics that should project strongly with some tweeks in the offensive line.

It will be interesting to see who Dallas resigns in the off season, to figure out, what direction we go in the draft as follows: sign Gallup or Wilson = Cooper traded or released, sign Gregory or Armstrong= bye,bye Lawrence. I think Jerry is going to move on one of them and I think it is going to be Cooper. Would love to see Kearse, Anger resigned. Dalton is going to get paid probably elsewhere. Don’t care much about the rest.

Cutting Lawrence saves the Cowboys zero money against the cap if done before June 1. Cutting Cooper saves $14M (dead cap of 6M) if cut before June 1. The Cowboys will have to restructure a bunch just to get cap compliant (they are 21.145M over the cap as we speak). Getting rid of those two doesn't create 30M in space, nor does it come close.

Cutting Lawrence pre June 1 saves $8 million in cap space. He and Cooper would save $24 million in cap space as regular cuts/trades.

Pre June 1, Lawrence has a 19M salary and 19M of dead money. That's a wash.

In Smith's defense his cap hit is where its at because the FO likes playing kick the can. His contract was about 10m AAV until a couple of re-structures.

Nice write up.
I would let Shultz walk.
A one dimentional TE is not worth what he can get in free agency this year.

“Whether the Jones’ like it or not” lololol. Yeah, that will end well.

“It’s frustrating Jerry wouldn’t go after a coach that wants more control” umm, clearly Jerry refuses to hire anyone who wants any kind of control. That’s the whole point.
sad, but true words

Smith when he first came into the league was in a toxic relationship with his family that got violent at times and alot of threats and his family taking his money. Jerry got him out of that mess. IT goes both ways.

And lets not kid ourselves, Tyron isnt near what he was. He's not a top 3 LT anymore, if anything he's a top 3 most penalized LT in the league. He's an above avg player. And no im not a hater, notice the sig. He's one of my favorite Cowboys of all time. But he's on his last legs.

Disagree, he was his normal dominant self until the injury. His penalties have not significantly increased (he's always been highly penalized, mostly bc he so good with his hand it look like holding). The injuries are a valid concern, but I still like the player and the value.

What about after June 1st?
After June 1? The numbers would be better for 2022, with the caveat that they are pushing more dead money to 2023, a year where you would assume that Elliott will get cut (adding more dead money).
Just because the cap hit is half doesnt make it better. What good is the money if you cant use it until after june1

Nah i think it was just the Jones forcing their hand. They play the players who are making the money plain and simple.

in 2022 if Dallas keeps Cooper there will be no Gallup or Wilson.

Actually Dallas has been able to kick the can with Smith because his contract only had a 10mil signing bonus if i remember. And they did that because they knew they would restructure it. Tyrons deal was very team friendly.

Lawrence is always hurt? I thought that in the last 4 years this was the only season he's missed time.
