My Thoughts about this "Game"

So yeah, at UTexas everything's great when you're winning, but when you're in the TV lounge and the Cowboys are losing, you just want to turn around and shoot that mandatory anti-Dallas fan in the face.

IMO we DID want this game. We came out at the beginning of the game and played fairly well. We were stopping the run very well. As always, we seemed a bit soft underneath.

Is Newman 100%? Because he's sure not playing like it. I'm not sure if he's playing through the injury or not, but that was just ugly.

Shawn Springs played like one of the best CBs in the league, and I have to give him kudos for that. He kept our offense from getting in a rhythm early by bottling up TO.

I don't remember any runs by Felix, and I think it probably would have helped to run the ball more (with Felix or Barber).

As for the game as a whole, we're kidding ourselves if we think the Commanders are "mediocre". They're a tough, hard-nosed team. I spent about an hour screaming at the Cowboys to show some heart, show some pride, show everyone that they wanted this game. Thinking back on the game, I don't think it was so much about who wanted it more (although it certainly looked like the Commanders wanted it more), but I think we just got outplayed and outcoached. It happens.

Romo needs to work on some stuff. No more forcing it to players that aren't open. If you're gonna throw it in coverage, please throw it on target.

Owens had a bad start, but I think he had a pretty good game overall. Ratliff was all over the field. Ware was all over the field at points in the game -- did he get injured?

I think the reason we lost this game is because of our run D and run O (or lack thereof). Our run D was awful going into the Commanders' last drive. HOW DO YOU GET 12 MEN ON THE FIELD AFTER A TIMEOUT? And I think it's oh-so-awesome how Suisham doesn't miss a FG for the Commanders.

I'm not on the fire Wade bandwagon, but I think he and Stewart need to fix this defense. Garrett needs to learn that passing is not always the option -- a running game is VERY important. I hate to say this, but Wade looked completely incompetent..as if he were just watching the game, towards the end. Whoever is in charge of this offense, I expect results...Jerry has spent way too much money on this defense. It's either the players or the coaches. Whoever it is needs to go.

I'd be interested to see a zone v. man-to-man pass coverage stat comparison. TNew looked like he got beat on 3 separate occasions of man-on-man (Thrash TD - though he slipped, Randel-El TD, and Moss' long, wide-open reception).

On the bright side (I know, nobody wants to hear about this), we lost by two points. We got completely outplayed, outcoached, and still had a chance to win the game at the end.

Hopefully this is something that allows us to grow (hey, we DID get swept by Washington in 1995) rather than shooting us down. A shot to the ego is good as long as it doesn't kill our confidence.

This looks to be an awful week...Dallas loss, Calculus midterm on Wednesday, and a Chemistry midterm on my birthday. :(
