I haven't read the forums since the game ended because I didn't want to wade through the knee-jerk reactions about how this team is soft or whatever.
I really don't have a problem losing to NE. I never enjoy a loss, but The Patriots are simply a juggernaut right now. That team is playing near perfect football. Tom Brady is on pace to shatter Peyton's single-season TD record. If we had embarrassed ourselves like we did against the Saints last season that would be one thing, but we played HARD today. Romo settled down and made some beautiful throws. When he threaded that needle to Crayton on the TD pass my jaw hit the floor. Our D-Line got pressure and I almost had someone call the police on me when Hatcher ran the fumble back for a TD.
The Patriots just exploited our weakness which is the underneath routes. Our LBs are simply terrible in pass coverage and makes the secondary look bad. In the 3-4 system you need to have athletic linebackers that can play good in coverage, and our LBs look lost out there. I honestly believe this defense would play better with a 4-3 look. You can't take players like Ware and Ellis who were life-long DE's till the day they were drafted and turn them into LBs who are supposed to be able to cover. I can't tell you how many times a 5-7 yard inside slant has gone for over 15+ yards because we are so badly out of position.
If there was one thing that beat us today, it was the absolutely horrible penalties we committed, and the time our defense spent on the field. New England had the ball for almost FORTY (40) minutes. By the 4th quarter the D was so gassed Brady just bombed all over them.
I went off on a rant about the defense a little there, but all in all today we played a damn good game. We didn't lie down for them and are the only team to have ever had a lead on the Pats in the 2nd half. No team is going to go undefeated, and I would rather lose to a good New England team in a hard fought game than be the Bears, who are 2-4 a season after going to the Super Bowl. Good thing NE has to play through a tough AFC.
