If it goes as expected in FA DAL will get 4 Comp picks

We should lose
Leary-3......maybe cancelled by a DE like Perry
TWill-4.......maybe be cancelled by a WR like DJax
Church-4/5
McClain-6
Sanchez-6
Carr-6
Escobar-7......we will sign 2 or 3- 6th and 7th round FAs
Durant-7
JCrawford-7
Gachkar-7
Dunbar-7
RDavis-7

We might keep- don't count against comps
Claiborne-5
Butler-6
Wilcox-6
JCooper-7
DMC-7
KMoore-7

Overall we will lose at least 4 more FAs than we sign... that means we will get 4 picks ranging from 3,4,4,5 to 4,6,6,7

trading a 2018 pick or two for picks this year would be smart since comp pick can now be traded and pretty easy to predict.......we will know for a near certainty by the draft how many picks we will get

we can also sign guys like JCharles and Torrey Smith that were waived so they don't count towards the comp picks cancellations

Wouldn't mind trading back from 28 and get more picks for next year as well. Having 9-13 picks next year would be great, would allow the Cowboys to move up in the 1st if they wanted.

I would love to get a 2nd this year and a conditional 2nd next year for Romo
then we could move up or back depending on who slips or is hot

Imagine if we get a 2nd and 3rd for #28 and #45 for Romo

that would give us 34, 45, 60, 66 and 92

Reports are floating around Church could exceed 7mill now. Puts him right behind Leary.

TWill is still supposed to get more.....like 8m
Feels like Church, Leary and Williams will likely all be in the same rough price range, the 7+ million aav, but below the elite level salaries 10+ aav.

I wouldn't trade 2018 picks for players or picks this year just because we think we will get 4 comp picks next year.
Just because on paper we may get 4 comp picks, doesn't not mean they are fluid. Players get injured and released or both. That's like counting your eggs before the hatch.

No thanks, use all of our picks this year within this draft, and keep all of our picks going into 2018.
Unless somehow a few of those picks, gets us A player like Myles Garrett or Malik Hooker type players.
Which I doubt happens.

But the players we get this year are real and help us now.... why the fear?

We are a trading a 2018 pick for picks this year not just to move up
Trade a 2018 4th for a 2017 5th knowing we are getting at least 4 comp picks next year
We will know by the draft exactly how the comp are shaping up for 2018

We may, on paper, get 4 comp picks. However, what if those 4 players get injured and are released before the season....I don't think we will get any picks. Come pocks are tied to the amount of the contracts, but they still need to make the team and get paid that contract.

It's not like, they sign and you get the extra picks.

It doesn't change the fact we are trading future picks for present players

And all 4 comp picks won't get waived either and we will be over the margin a 6-7 players if some fall

I guess depends on situation and how many gaps we need to fill.
However I wouldn't look at it like, hey we get 4 picks next year, so let's do this, this year.

Actually a few years back Stephen jones was asked about stuff like that, if comp picks come into play when considering free agents.
He said yes and no, but more no, as they look to see if that player can help now. Or something like that.

I think I actually posted what he said. But like I said it was a year or 2 ago.

Don't seriously see us signing anyone like Perry or DJax, in fact would be very surprised if we sign anyone the first two weeks of free agency other than some of our own.

May not be those 2 specifically but Cowboys will sign a WR and a pass rusher. Re-signing our own RFA's and maybe Claiborne will happen too.

NFLN just said, expect Dallas to focus on their own, and not be involved with other teams players right now.
From what they were told by the team.

They may do it. As you know, that would depend on who is left on their board when 28 approaches plus what offers they have.

A lot of good players in that range!

Yep. Really hope some of these late first round players start to really impress. Or maybe someone like R. Foster starts to nose dive!

Oh boy. You're always about robbing the future for today's instant gratification. It usually doesn't work out. So that's "the fear." Giving up more in value to please your instant desire for a shiny object.

So, for example, trading a future 2nd for this year’s 3rd round pick would be included in this analysis. Trading a future 7th and a 4th and 5th to get this year’s 3rd round pick would not.

26 total trades made during the 2000 to 2009 drafts were reviewed. The result? The team “delaying gratification” is getting close to a 50% return on the investment–rates that would qualify as usurious.

Using the Approximate Value numbers at Pro Football Reference, the team trading for a pick now, and giving up a better pick in the future, got 16.5 points, versus giving up 25.2 points in value. That’s a 152% rate of return by delaying a year, from the perspective of the patient team. Those actual results are similar to the hypothetical rate we get by using the draft pick value calculator, which calculated the team acquiring the future pick would get a 157% rate of return.

This is a bad idea folks. Unambiguously bad idea.
