- With Downs, we got the flip side of position value. He might the the best overall player in the draft, and we get him at 11 just because he doesnt play a Money 5. There were two things that hurt our back end last year: Lack of talent, chaotic play. Downs goes a long way towards fixing both. There should be an interesting dynamic with him and Thompson, both being capable of covering the slot. Gives you alot of different looks you can present on the back end

- Lawrence is probably the same tier prospect Ezeiruaku was last year. Ezeiruaku had no business going 42(or whatever) and probably goes around the top 20 if he was two inches taller. Lawrence is a less polished player, but with more burst athleticism (I think Ezeiruaku has better bend though). Guys like Thomas and Young might give you more polish right now, but Lawrence is the of guy you target when you hire a dedicated edge rusher coach. There are probably about 700-900 total snaps snaps for your non starting edges to get, and Lawrence probably blocks Williams from getting any of them. Lawrence and Houston are probably getting the run behind Ezeiruaku and Gary. Lawrence probably pushes Gary to a reserve role in 2027

They said in their press conference last night, filling their nickel role was a priority. With Downs/Thompson they have the flexibility to move them all around the secondary and confuse the offense. Good point about Downs helping with those blown coverages, but also think he helps a huge weakness from last season, those backs in the passing game. He blows up those plays on a consistent basis.

I agree, wrote the same in my post this morning, Lawrence/Ez are similar prospects and with development can potentially become cornerstone pieces at a premium position. It is up to the new staff to develop them as soon as possible to reach that potential. Everything I have heard about Lawrence is that he is a high character, strong worker, just like EZ.

Agree with your first part the secondary is now interchangeable especially if Revel and Bland our healthy. No more busts in coverage!!!

Lawrence job will be a 3rd pass rusher and hopefully he develops in a few years into 10 sack guy. Gary is a much different player. He sets the edge. I think they picked Lawrence over Faulk because of Gary.

If we have a decent day two and 3 we might have actually fixed this team in one off season. It can be done.

Downs at 12 was a dream come true.

A lot of people feel Lawrence was a bit of a reach but I think anyone available at 23 was somewhat of a reach for what’s normally available at 23. So it really was just Dallas’ preference between an older Mesidor or Lawrence plus two 4ths. I’m very happy with the 1st round.

it's pretty freakin remarkable that we got arguably the best player in the draft AND he fits our needs and wants perfectly. just unreal fortune
