My thoughts on Marcus Spears

Ok, I've been a Marcus Spears supporter through thick and thin. He has been playing much better this season in the new scheme and I'm happy about that, but something is starting to make me rethink Spears starting role. It's not his play, but the play of Jason Hatcher. Hatcher is making not just plays, but big-time plays and he has been getting more playing time because of it. If this continues and can play at least close to as solid as Spears plays the run (probably not) I look for Hatcher to earn the starting position over Spears before this season ends.

Now, with that said. What do you think about a front seven of...

Code:
Ware Hatcher Ratliff Canty Ellis/Spencer

         Ayodele James

Its just a matter of time. Wade is looking at Hatcher hard and I think that in the next couple of weeks Spears will be collecting splinters.

I also love his fire. On the sidelines he clearly screamed..."put me in the...game!" Did anyone notice the look on Canty's face after he said that?

He is playing better in this scheme. Problem for him is, so is Hatcher.

I see no problems rotating the line to keep them fresh but if Spears has the edge on run defense, he's gotta stay in on running downs (1st down).

He may have been getting more playing time already if he did not have his injury in camp.

You all remember how the DC was having them do sprints before stretching and Hatcher injured his hammy.

To which Jerry Jones yelled at stewart over the issue.

Suffice to say they were high on him in camp and now I think we are seeing why.

I seem to be the only one that missed this... :banghead: Gotta watch the replay!

But you have to love Hatcher. You can just tell that he's a player. And this scheme is so perfect for him, as fast and athletic as he is. We might have a Jones-Barber situation here where Spears keeps starting, but Hatcher gets more and more snaps, and more at meaningful times of the game.

Shame about losing Fergy, but especially when Tank comes in, we're really going to have a heck of a D-line rotation.

Yes it is. :)

I agree. Since first downs are running downs, then maybe Spears should remain starting and have Hatcher come in on second and third and long. Of course, when and if we get to play New England again, maybe Hatcher should start.

I like hatcher, he was a family man in college and I think I remember him saying some things about having to take care of his wife and kids with his play on the field. Those kinds of things impress me, mostly cause I am a big softy I suppose.
Course, I could have made that up completely, but if I did don't clue me in, I much prefer how I look at hatcher .

I personally have confidence in all of the guys we can line up in the front 7. Every single one of them.

Very rare for me.

There seems to be some debate about what he said in the game. Did he say "put me in the ****** game!" or did he say "let's put this ****** game away!"

Either way, he clearly said ******.

I think somebody said it best. It's a good problem to have.

I think it's better said, "It's a good problem to be dishing to opposing offenses." ;) :D Will that be one lump, or two? :laugh2:

i have almost given up on Spears, he hasnt lived up to his draft selection, i used to feel the same way about Canty, although im starting to see some upside in Canty.

You know, Canty is making some plays, but he isn't exactly dominating compared to Spears. He is getting more pressure, but sometime he seems to get where he needs to be, but fails to make the play. (The missed safety yesterday) What we could see before it's all over is....

Code:
Ware Hatcher Ratliff [B]Tank[/B] Ellis/Spencer

         Ayodele James

i can agree with that, but that block FG by Canty is probably the biggest play either one has made since becoming Boys.:bomb:

I gotta agree with Hos on this one . I'm pretty much impressed with the entire defense . To have played as well as they have with out Ferguson and with Newman and Henry dinged up has been impressive . I'm thrilled with the depth , and while they may not be starters , much less stars , guys like Bowen , Hatcher , Burnett , Reeves , and Watkins have all contributed when given a chance . It's depth like this that will get you through December . It's depth like this that will win you 6 games with your starting NT and CBs not playing .

I know , I know Dallas hasn't played anybody good and don't play well against good QBs . Blah ! Blah ! Blah ! That's a lame line . Dallas is 7th in the league in TOTAL defense , and in the end all that matters is that and the W .

This is a young defense with a new head coach and a new defensive coordinator . Every week they seem to understand a little better , every week they seem to apply a little more pressure , every week they seem to force 1 more turnover , and every week it seems like I'm watching a Cowboys defender running into the end zone .

This is a defense that is maturing ! Now throw in a sprinkle of Tank and a healthy Henry , and we might just have a team that hits it's stride at just the right time . Nobody is talking about them yet , but when Dallas goes into New York in a few weeks and hands the Giants their *** on a plate , the entire NFL will be talking !

I admit, I've been against Spears since the draft. I am starting to see something in Spears lately though.

Maybe b/c I saw him at the State Fair of Texas on Satuday and he was one huge mofo. lol

I've been hoping we'll see a little of Tank at end, but I think we'll need him at NT for the rest of this season, maybe next year we'll see some of him at end.

How about this lineup?

Code:
[B][SIZE=2] Ware  Ware    Tank   [B]Ware[/B]   Ware[/SIZE][/B]

         [B]Ware Ware[/B]

:D
