Marinelli is a very crucial component to this team. I frankly think that he will stay because he will have full reigns over this defense and even more.
Not many DCs have that comfort zone with their teams. Full reigns meaning not only selecting your staff but also picking your players in FA and in the draft. Marinelli has that type of leverage and has had it for quite a while here in Dallas.
Here are some of the decisions that was influenced by Marinelli:
- We decided not to draft Shariiff Floyd in the first round and allowed us to trade that pick for Frederick and Williams.
- Marinelli was instrumental with letting Ware and Hatcher go. Or at least it gave the Jones a comfort zone with their decision. I think I heard him state we can do more with less and wanted to build a defense without the superstars.
- Marinelli was instrumental in the trade up to get Demarcus Lawrence. Saying that he is one of the few pure pass rushers in this draft. 3 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble is nothing to sneeze about in the playoffs. Which means that I think we might have find a capable replacement for Ware.
- He was also instrumental in getting Melton here. At one time Melton was force when he was healthy. I think he'll be back and playing up to what he's capable of.
- Lastly, I think Ro McClain and the entire defense loves him.
- I think he will be instrumental in getting players to come here and play for us. I remember him being open to having Suh here and playing in this defense.
What I'm getting at is that Marinelli brings a lot to the table rather than just coaching the defense. I don't remember a DC having this type of authority over the team. Im highly certain he will be here next year coaching and for a long time.
The FO really respects him. They valued his opinion in high standards that they traded up to get Lawrence.
The players love playing for him. Ro stated that he is willing to sign a deal in Dallas unless they make sure that the coaching staff signs also.
Like I mentioned I think he will stay. I hope he does. He is not only doing what he loves to do here. But right now they are going to build an entire new defense based on his standards and principles and a billion dollar team is willing to put all their cards on the table onto doing it. I can't see him giving that up.
