I'm off to spring training for a few weeks so I thought I'd share my thoughts on Owens (seeing how I'm probably the only one on the planet who hasn't).
I don't want Owens because of personal dislike but I'd deal with him on the Cowboys much like I dealt with others I've disliked such as Sanders and Irvin.
I really don't believe that Owens will be the problem child he's been at his previous two stops for several reasons. First and foremost is looking at the reasons he acted up in the past. Sure he was a self-agradizing hustler in San Francisco but the real problems (his comments about Garcia being the biggest "crime") didn't go over the top until his agent at the time missed filing deadline. Instead of controlling Owens like a quality agent should, his agent stoked Owens' ego to save his own butt.
Then we get that aborted trade to Baltimore. Be honest with yourself for a moment, would you want Boller as your QB knowing you had to put up numbers to get one more big payday? Most don't seem to hold it against Elway for doing the same thing.
Owens then signed an under value contract with Philly thanks to the same idiot agent. He was somewhat quiet his first season and actually showed a willingness to put the team first by coming back for the Super Bowl.
He'd hired Rosenhaus by that time and I believe that all the problems that off season fall on his shoulders. You have remember that Rosenhaus wasn't getting a dime from Owens until he signed a new contract be it with the Eagles or someone else and that was the goal from day one of their relationship. It wasn't a hard sell to convince Owens that he was underpaid to accomplish this. That's when the meltdown began.
Now flash foward to Owens next team. Rosenhaus will be getting paid and he'll have a vested interest in protecting his own reputation (he does have to deal with the management side for his other clients) so while I think Rosenhaus will still be only looking out for himself, Owens behaving is that.
Owens almost must realize that one more meltdown and he'll be effectively blackballed. Say what you will about Owens, but he is no dummy.
