My thoughts on players that are likely targets at pick 28

DE's

Takk - Out of all the DE's that have a shot at being available at our spot I think he is the one that has the best chance of turning into a dominant pass rusher. He also has a chance of missing a lot of time due to injuries. I think he is high ceiling and low floor.

Harris - I fear he will be the pick. I think he is not special at all but would be somewhat consistent and a decent player. Low Ceiling/Higher floor

Taco - I hope he is gone before 28. I don't think he fits what we are looking for.

Watt - Could develop into a great player or could be the next Bobby Carpenter.

I don't think the DE candidates would be BPA at 28 and I hope we focus on CB or S.

CB's

Humphrey - I think he will be long gone but if a team decides Sidney Jones is worth the pick despite missing some time and another team thinks a different CB is a better scheme fit than Humphrey then there is an outside shot at him being there. If he is there we should take him. High ceiling/High floor great against the run and has the quickness needed to handle small speedy WR's as well as the size to handle bigger WR's. Out of all of the players we have some chance at he is the one I would want the most.

Conley - a notch below Humphrey but likely still a day one starter. If available and Humphrey is gone, he is my pick.

King - a tiny notch below Conley and maybe even a better candidate for us since he could play safety if we decided to go that route. Would be happy with him as the pick.

Morau, Awuzie, Jackson etc. Pick 28 is too rich for them IMO

S's

Hooker and Adams will be gone.

Peppers will likely be gone but there is a chance he will be there. I would be fine with Peppers at 28. I think he will develop into a great safety. One that adds a lot of extra value with the other things he can do. I rate him just below the top 3 corners we have a shot at.

Obi - I don't like him at all and I certainly wouldn't pick him in the 1st rd. He is a freakish enough athlete that at some point he becomes viable but not at pick 28. IMO

Baker - I like him and if the 3 corners and Peppers were gone I would be fine with it.

Williams and Jones I like both but would hope they fall to 60 rather than using pick 28 on them

Players at other positions -

OJ Howard - I guess I could live with this pick and would probably grow to love it in the future. If not for so many needs on defense I would be thrilled.

Njoku - I would not be happy with him at 28 but there is a chance he becomes a tremendous weapon.

Ramzyk, Bolles and Robinson - I like using high picks on the OL but with the needs we have I would not be in favor of any of these at 28.

Foster - probably won't be there and I would only want him if I knew Jaylon Smith isn't going to be healthy.

Reddick - There is a small chance he will be there and if Jaylon is not going to be healthy then I would be on board. I just don't know the truth about Jaylons' outlook.

Lamp - I could see this happening if they wanted to try Collins at RT. The team likes to take the best player in the draft at his position. Lamp is the no 1 Guard. I would be fine with this if not for so many holes on the defense.

Davis Ross and Williams - would love it if we didn't have defensive needs.

Mccaffrey - I could see the problems adding him would cause opposing defensive coordinators but it is just not a luxury we can afford.

Malik Mcdowell - I haven't heard of any interest by the team. If there is one player that is hardly ever talked about that could end up being the pick, it is him. IMO

If I had to guess as to which players have the highest percentages of being the pick at 28 I would go

1. Harris
2. TJ Watt
3. Takk Mckinley
4. King
5. Conley

My order of preference would be

1. Humphrey
2. Conley
3. King
4. Peppers
5. Baker

Yeah, I don't even have a DE on my top 5 wish list. I don't think the value is there at 28. I would look towards others later.

good thread.my experience with how the Cowboys operate and who they have brought in for visits and who they have scouted the most brings me down to 5 guys IF they stay at 28

1)Takk-no question in my mind they will pick him if he is there at 28.They met him at the Combine and brought him for a visit
2)Watt-hoping he is not injury prone but i think they really like him
3)OBi-significant interest by the Cowboys and one i hope they dont make at 28
4)Harris-I really like him and the Cowboys wont mind him playing at less than 250 LB.
5)Basham-I think he will be a ideal candidate at LDE and could be a fall back if they cant trade back.

PS-I think they love Moreau but not sure what his injury situation is and Jerry has stated they wont pick red shirt guys.

I think they should trade down if Takk,Watt and Harris are gone if possible.

Nice job man. I don't agree with all of it but you laid your thoughts out well.

Like you, I'm also really beginning to think that DE won't be the best pick at 28.

Humphrey has been being more and more in the second round of people's mocks (Jeremiah, Brooks, etc.) I'm not sure why he's dropped so much. It certainly looks like King and Conley have moved in front of him.

I love Foster and Reddick both and would be fine with them at our pick... however, I'm pretty sure both will be gone before Dallas is on the clock.

As for the corners, I do like King, Conley and Humphreys... but I'm really, really starting to like Awuzie a whole lot. He's been a little under the radar but that guy can ball. I actually like Jackson in the second (his return ability would be a huge help) but he will likely be long gone by 60, I'm afraid. I think a dark horse at that 60 pick could be Desmond King. I like the way that guy plays.

Boooooo!
Forgiven.

Seriously tho, what does Takk bring to the table other than an above average 1st step and a good motor? Hes stiff (his horrid 3 cone as evidence) and can't turn the corner plus he has 0 hand usage or pass rush moves. 2nd round? Yeah sure, 28? No way. I think Willis is a very similar player to Takk and Basham and Rivers both have higher upside as pass rushers.

In addition we have more seasoned DE's than DB's. The DB cupboard is bare.
I like the second round DE's because the drop doesn't appear that much. IMO

I have been saying this for some time. I really doubt that a DE is the BPA at 28 and it probably won't even be close unless someone like Barnett slides. I hope we don't reach here. Too many good players in this draft to piss off a first round pick. Just draft according to your board and it will all come out in the wash.

Great post. I'm still reading Brugler's guide and organizing my thoughts, but Takk is the guy I like most at this point.

Nice effort!

Ive kinda narrowed mine down to what I think makes sense at this point.

I dont see any of the top 3 wr's or Howard getting to 28, would love any of the 3 at 28 if still bpa

I think we need to take ol later

I think these guys that I really like for our team could be there and would be pretty happy with any on this short list ive targeted

At 28...
Edge
A - Charles Harris
Got on my radar early, theres not much not to like, he is exactly what we need imo and I doubt hell even get to 28, not sure what some are missing but this guy is a stud
B- T.J. Watt
One of the guys I actually watched a bit live, was intrigued early. He jumps off the screen and gets to the ball fast and stays on his feet through traffic to get there like a magnet. I definately feel he has the body to be heck of a Edge DE and think he will be.

Dont like Takks size or stiffness, i sniff bust potential even tho I love his hustle, although he played best against weak comp imo. This is more personal feeling and he could easily be great and prove me wrong, I didn't like bosa for some reason, ouch.

Dont have any other DE I like at that pick, i expect Barnett to b gone, Taco a LE imo

CB
A-Adore Jackson
hes got pac man jones skills imo and will continue to get better, great kid who is a true baller that will do anything, weapon and playmaker!

B- Quincy Wilson
Complete QB with speed, size/length great cover skills, solid tackler who plays with great attitude and confidence, not much to not like here, darn good football player.

C- Chidube Awuzie (sp?)
Just love this kid!!! Would be just as happy with him as the two above. A true playmaking leader who flys and hits and makes plays inside or out. Hes got big time football smarts, knows where the play is going ahead of time kind of guy.

D- Kevin King
I would like to see a little better effort tackling but theres no denying he has the size and skill set our D needs bad, playmaker, would be happy

Dont want G. Conley at 28, wont tackle, that loses games!

Dont think Humphrey will be there at 28 but I like him alot for our D although I have some concerns about his abiliy to track/cover the deep ball

Dont think any of the top safeties drop, even Baker, if he does id love the pick, big gamer, always to the ball in a blink! I dont think we will draft him for s because of his size.

Obi-
Alot like Byron Jones imo. Not really on my radar for 28 but I think hes got a lot of upside and would have to trust that the fo has a plan but I think 28 is a touch to high but I think hes a pretty darn good football player already who is a phenominal athlete. He no Sean Taylor but the "looks like tarzan plays like jane" is bs. Theyre system does seem to be more of a read and react then an attacking one so id like to see him let loose a bit, he sure impressed at senior bowl. Definately some boom or bust here

Dont want DL at 28 that cannot be a legit pass rushing RDE

Dont want any TE in first except howard, to deep to draft early now days imo

My opinion.
1) If Garrett, Thomas, Allen, Lattimore, Hooker, Adams, Foster, Reddick, Peppers, Humphrey, or Barnett are there......don't take calls, just deliver the card.
2) If Howard, Fournette, Ross, or Williams are there......take calls, but if no great deal........deliver the card.
*** These guys I think all have a chance to start or will be very good very soon. ** Fournette being insurance against Zeke doing dumb things.
3) If Trubisky, Watson, Mahomes, Bolles, Robinson, Ramczyk, Cook, McAffery, NJoku are there.........take calls........work something out. * I think all of these go in the 1st.
**** Just my opinion, but with the limited research I have done, these are the ones with a round one grade or expected round one draft. 24 players
4) Then, if none of these are available, start looking at best corner, safety, and DE in the first in that order based upon who you think has a chance to start the soonest or has the biggest upside on your board. Probably need safety the worst, but it holds less value than CB. Safety would just have to beat out Heath. DE would have to beat 5 DEs +Gregory -- and since I am not sure they keep over 5 DE's, and I think they need to be good enough to start to justify getting them in the first.........CB it would be most likely.
