My thoughts on the DL

Thats whats being built in dallas. You think SEA DL all of the sudden was what they were when they won the SB? They developed. You people complain when they sign people and they dont work out, and cry when they dont. My only gripe on how theyre building is they need to stop drafting players with drug problems.

That 2013 Seattle defensive line:

Snap Counts:

Bennett - 598 - Free agent in 2013 from TB
Clemons - 568 - Free agent in 2010 from Philly
Avril - 555 - Free agent in 2013 from Detroit
Mebane - 532 - Drafted by Seattle
McDonald - 531 - Free agent in 2011 from Bengals
McDonald - 527 - Free agent in 2013 from Miami
Irvin - 499 - Drafted by Seattle
Bryant - 488 - Drafted by Seattle

So of the top 8 in the rotation, three were drafted by Seattle and three were pick ups in FA the year they won the SB. The other two were also recent FA signings. So yeah, they did some decent overhaul on that DL prior to the 2013 SB win.

DL is part of it, but you need DEs, RBs, QB, S, OL, LB as well. When I said bigger needs I was referring to what the Cowboys' owner/staff thinks, not necessarily what I think...
Of course.

However, there should be a blueprint of what is needed to get there. Great DL's and OL's are prime suspects. TE's are not!!!!

Big difference is that they focused on the DLine. When Carroll took over, I don't think he even understood how important that DLine was, as he let 3 of them walk in FA.

I only cry when the people we sign make no sense. Thornton was a not a NT, yet we signed him to play just that. We only draft lanky DT's and have ignored a myriad of prospects in the 2nd-7th rounds. Grady Jarrett, for one.

SEA's super bowl winning DLine rotation was built through both smart drafting and wise FA acquisitions. We don't draft players such as Brandon Mebane, a top notch play making NT. We did try though, w/ Malik, who isn't bad. Tony McDaniel, Cliff Avril, Chris Clemons, Clinton McDonald all very valuable parts of the rotation they acquired in FA, mostly inexpensive. Why don't e do it? We don't value the position.
Think antwuan woods who played his first yr in 2018 has only been in the league for 2 yrs. is a great start

Mebane first yr 29 tackles 2 sack

Woods first yr 34 tackles 1.5 sacks

Pure comedy with you guys expecting big things from players in their first yrs and reference guys based of their whole careers, who had similar production in the same yrs. mebane had to develop as well.

Yes, the approach to FA has hurt them. They've nickel and dimed it at DL in FA. They've drafted pretty well along the DL but still could have improved the DL in FA. Instead, they've given us people like Thornton and Paea and some other slop.

You have an upward trending defense. You also don't have a first round pick. Now is the time to spend a little in FA and bring in a couple of players above the bargain bin level (note, I am not saying go out and re-sign Lawrence and then go sign Grady Jarrett and Clowney).

Your Fowler option makes sense for example. My gut tells me that he's going to be above the where the Cowboys will be looking for DL help in FA.

Wouldn’t mind taking DL in rounds 2 and 3.
Signing ET takes care of safety
And with Witten you aren’t spending a high pick at TE.

Someone needs to change OP’s name to “1995Mind”. Because if you read all of his posts you would think the Cowboys are still in the midst of their dynasty run and everything is all hunky dory. Just stay the course...maybe it will only take another 2+ decades to get to a Conference Championship Game

And much bigger comedy is you evaluating inside D players on stats!!!!!!

Woods was a very nice pickup.

Seems as if you should paint your own house before insulting others.

Equally funny is he tried to float the idea that Seattle developed their DL for the SB run when in fact most were free agents including in the offseason before they won the SB.

Carroll lucked into Red Bryant, Chris Clemons, and Brandon Mebane. He did pick up McDonald, McDaniel, and he did move Bryant to end where he was much better.
