The first thing to look at is really who the 7 inactives will be.
1. Joseph Randle
2. Andre Smith/Dante Rosario
3. Darrion Weems
4. David Arkin
5. George Selvie
6. Nick Cohen
7. Eric Frampton
The first thing I've seen is a concerted effort to build a strong special teams core after what was a fairly embarrassing preseason for the special teams. We've draft position, and roster spots specifically for the special teams players. We kept McCray and simply had him take a cut in salary in order to retain him. We traded for a special teams player, and we kept a lot of safeties, who are primarily going to be playing special teams. Given that, I think these players will be on the 46 man roster, more so than most of the depth we have at a lot of positions.
I don't think we would take 5 tight ends on game day and probably not 4 running backs. The flexibility we have with players on our offensive line will be used in case of emergencies on the line. I think the flexibility with the linemen will allow us to go shorter there. Somewhat surprised that Kowalski didn't make the team, but his injury issues have well, been an issue.
I think Randle is going to find a difficult time to get playing time. Either that or Tanner will. I think he ran pretty well in the preseason finale though.
I think we'll see a practice squad that consists of
1. Alex Tanney
2. Brandon Magee
3. Jakar Hamilton
4. Taylor Reed
5. Eric Rogers
6. Danny Coale
7. Tim Benford*
8. Micah Pellerin*
Not sure the last two are eligible
Other than the fact that we went so short at LB and CB, I don't think there were really any huge surprises here.
