This coaching staff needs to go. Plain and simple
First and foremost Kris Richard and Marinelli:
How can these 2 well-respected defensive minds not learn how to defend a run blocking scheme? They are still getting diced up by a patient running game thats running behind a passing DT thats designed to take the guard tackle gap leaving the middle wide open for the RB? All they gotta do is be patient and wait for the DTs to vacant the lane. Vikings did exactly what the Colts and Rams did, its not that the OL is dominating the DL, the OL is just allowing the DTs to take themselves out of the play. So infuriating that they dont adjust to it and have them collapse the C-G gap and force the run outside where you got probably the best LB speed sideline to sideline in the NFL.
Second with this defensive system, how do you draft CBs who specialize in man, but run more zone? You're playing against their strengths. And, how does this coaching staff refuse to send a msg to Jones and Awuzie that they are stinking it up and not bench them for a CB who is playing very good in Lewis. He's not the height you like so what he shuts people down. Awuzie cant defend anything, and Jones cant cover anything that isnt a route run in a straight line.
Third, i understand about rotation but do they need to be rotated so frequently that you dont allow the starters to get into a groove? How is Bennett not starting? When he's on the field he just make the passrush and the run defense better. Why because he he keeps guys off him with his hands. Theyre wasting a good thing for a JAG(Collins). They allowed the Vikings to regain control with this stupid DL rotations. They take the lead 21-20 and what do they do come out with a DL of Bennett,Kerry, Covington, Armstrong and Vikings march. Do the DL need this many subs? Lawrence,Bennett,Woods,Quinn were dominating the LOS in the comeback but the geniuses disrupted the momentum.
Moving to the Offensive side, Why continue to try and run from the shutgun instead of allowing Elliot to gain steam? So you lean on your QB who is killing it, and you try and force the shotgun run at the end of the game.
Connor Williams need to be benched, You have a guy who deserved to have a chance to start for what he did last yr in Looney.
Dak and his receivers were outstanding lastnight. You cant ask for anything more from them. You dominate and the coaches take it from you by forcing something that hadnt been working all game. I just saw a interview from Dak and he said "im not going to question the play calling, and nobody else on the team is going to either". Thats how you handle a question about the play calling, thats a leader.
It was refreshing to see Cobb get rid of the dropsies. I think we saw a complete game from him. Guy took some big hits and held on to the ball every time.
For me this game was lost on the sidelines. Its frustrating that this team still hasnt figured out that zone blocking teams are gonna keep using the Colts blueprint.
I dont normally like to blame coaches for losses because the players are on the field, but this loss lastnight was just frustrating because the coaches took the ball out of the hands of a guy who was dominating.
It is what it is, on to the next game. The only comfort im getting is we are probably seeing the last few games of this coaching staff.
Coaches id like to see on a short list
1. Bill Belichick(dream that wont happen)
2. Nick Saban
3. Urban Myer
4. Lincoln Riley
