our #22, better to trade for 2 second rounds, or a 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 2 7ths etc.
I love the idea of kind of trading down a few picks in the 1st round at a time (it's more fun to watch anyway ...)
If your draft board is really well defined ....
Let's say at 22 some worrisome character guys are there, or some guys with injury you're unsure about ...
At that point in the board, J. Ireland sees 6 guys, all the same talent/risk level that we can live with ..
You get an offer to trade down 3 spots, for a 3 pick. You know you're going to get someone you want anyway, there are 6 guys that would be good. You do it, maybe a 6th pick thrown in too.
Then, at No. 25 you still see 4 guys in that same rank/plateau that you wanted originally ... an offer comes to trade down 7 picks - to the first pick in the 2nd round ... you get a 4th, plus a 5th swap .. your trade gets the higher 5th pick than your pick that is ...plus maybe a 7th ... maybe a 5th next year too ...
You probably can STILL get one of those 4 guys you wanted in the first round, still left, that's available at that 33 spot - one of them will probably still be left ,,,,
If you are as good as Jeff Ireland appears to be, you must love to trade down some ... Is J. Ireland that good, that there is strength in numbers? Are you confident that the extra 3rd rounder, higher 4th rounder, 2 fifth rounders and 2 6th rounders extra that you bargained for will be better value-wise than the straight-up 1st and 2nd rounder you could have had?
Hey it's a fantasy thing ... I just want the bell to ring on draft day .. "the Cowboys have made a trade ...."
