1 (ONE)1st round pick is all you will get in todays league. But you get a guy with 10-11 years of football and get rid of a guy with only 6-7 more seasons. Add on the cap bonus and it is a win.

Trading a proven star to draft a unproven rookie despite what Kiper and Mayock think of him is a terrible idea. Dez is the heart and soul of this team and trading him would top the list of all the ignorant moves this organization has made in the last 18 years

Someone finally says it, with gusto.

Ignorant is probably not the right descriptor though. I'm thinking more like "colossally, monumentally idiotic."

To casmith......We all root for the same team but see it different. On 2010 draft day I was pretty happy about the pick. Today I would take a mid 1st round pick straight up. I too look at your opinion as witless but I don't usually start the name calling because of how another informed poster sees the team.

To Questfor6....I notice you have the 88 avatar so maybe you will have to find another lol. The heart and soul does not fumble and have silly sideline tirades. I look at him as a part time cancer, immature blind dog in a meat house.

That's not true. And nobody was name-calling. The name-calling was for what we would refer to the front-office as for making such a stupid move as trading away the offense, essentially.

It's almost like people don't remember what it was like trotting out Terrell Owens and Roy E. Williams as our receivers with Miles "Hammy" Austin out there.

So you trade Dez Bryant, 2nd best WR in the NFL, and cut Miles Austin. Your starters are Terrence Williams, Cole Beasley, and Dwayne Harris? What if we whiff in the draft on a WR? Then what? A bunch of first round picks for what? A bust of a pick?

Get real. I want people to ask themselves if they would've seriously traded Michael Irvin for a mid 1st straight up after his third season.

What does the heart & soul do then? Get hurt every year and miss time when his team needs him most(Lee, Ware, Romo, Murray, Austin, Claiborne, Spencer) or does he drop catches into defenders hands for picks (Witten) or does he pretend to be an elite corner and get torched for 320 yards (Carr). Dez is the best player on this team and without him there is no one on this roster who can account for his 25 td's the last 2 seasons, Terrence Williams will never be anymore than what Alvin Harper was when he was here. No rookie can step in and fill the void and the window of opportunity is closing fast on the Romo train.

Respecting your point of course I would NEVER trade Michael 88. On the other hand handing our current #1 to another team would set up the team for the future. And I don't think that it is too hard to land another WR this year in the 2nd or 3rd that can catch 50 balls from Romo. Give me two 1st round picks to fix the defense and I'm more than good.

I too am not fond of Lee and the bunch. 1st thing Garrett needs to get into Jerrys head (now that he has input in the defense haha) is to stop drafting these bargain basement injury cases in hopes of finding gold. Frederick, Smith Romo Witten and Scandrick lead this team. Throw in Lee Murray Carr and then maybe Bryant.

Because there have been so many recent Super Bowl winners that relied on paying #1 receivers #1 prices, and so few that have won based on quality defensive line play?

Keeping Dez doesn't prevent the team from rebuilding the DL. Seattle paid 25m this year to Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice and Zach Miller.

You have to excuse cas
If he had his way we would have a team of DBs and WRs

Just not true
What did they pay their QB? Might have something to do with ability to pay WRs and defense

I think it is more of undervaluing Dez's potential influence compared to a first round DL who have high bust rates...a team that is already lacking in energy and purpose doesn't need to cut the one alpha dog that has carried this team the last two seasons despite the simple scheme/routes. Linehan was brought in to use Dez as a true 1...the offense must go through him, not Witten.

They also had the benefit of paying a quarterback 680K and a defense mainly on rookie contracts, which would be the exercise we are looking to do here (Get a young, good, cheap defense)

The other problem witht his whole idea is trusting our coaching staff in developing players and our GM to use draft picks and salary cap space wisely. Anyone willing to do that?

There are certainly some high-profile misses but I think the Cowboys hae actually drafted fairly well as of late, at least if you compare them to the rest of the league and average hit rates at certain spots. The mess has been with overrating in-house talent with over the top extensions which has made a mess of the cap and made the draft misses a more glaring error.

I would have Costa evaluated, he's had some good games and was thrown into the fire. He might look allot better with improvements beside him. If he's any good someone can cough up a draft pick for him the way we did Cook and if he is decent this is a chance to have good depth for a change. I think Bryant is gonna have some back issues that could affect his contract or not since Lee got his. I wouldn't be mad if they let Bryant go but they get too much development time invested and I'm a lil worried he may be given triplet status.
