Real quick, I am not going to mess with numbers, because I honestly don't know how much everyone will be worth (and really neither do you).
Resigns:
Rolando McClain- key player for us last year that we need back this year and I don't think he wants to go anywhere.
Free agency signings:
John Abraham- yes he is old, no he hasn't retired yet (to the best of my knowledge), yes I think he still can play. Missed last year with concussion problems, would would want to make sure he is still okay, but in all but one season where he played the whole year he has had 9.5 sacks... let him rotate in on passing downs and he would provide a much needed pass rush threat. (If we can't get him either Freeney (another old guy who was supposedly better than his stats indicated last year) or Johnson (off year last year and average 2013 but might still have something left in the tank and is still under 30) would do nicely)
C.J. Mosley- Performed quite well for the Lions in a reserve role last year, would be nice to see if he could match it this year in a starting role for us. Not the youngest guy which worries me a bit, but as a stop-gap guy i think he could be just fine
Draft
First round- Melvin Gordon RB Wisconsin- I think we could use a new guy that is ready to play and is a proven 20-30 carry a game back who rushed for an insane amount of yards last year. Enter Gordon, though I would honestly take Gurley here as well, just whoever is left over (which I think there will be 1, and only 1).
Second round- Michael Bennett DT Ohio State- RKG from Ohio State, from what I have read lacks strength but will provide a pass rush for this team right away, and hopefully can develop into a better run defender. If nothing else will be a 2 down guy to put next to Crawford inside on passing downs, which won't hurt anything.
Third Round- Daryl Williams, OT/OG, Oklahoma- Was quite good for Oklahoma as a tackle last year, and if we can develop his footwork a little might develop into a good tackle at the professional level though he might have to move inside. Either way we need depth at every position on the line, and he will provide it quite well.
Fourth Round- Kevin White CB TCU- Got talked up a lot after the Senior Bowl and after watching some game tape I can see why, he had an especially good game against the other Kevin White (aka the elite WR) and looked good all year. If he was a few inches taller he would probably be talked about as a day 2 pick, despite his lack of height I think he can come in right away and help us replace Moore (who may or may not be on his way out) though he will probably never be more than a slot corner we really need that.
Fifth Round- Zach Hodges DE Harvard- This took a lot of looking around but I think I might have found a guy worth drafting in Zach Hodges. Small school talent who will be more of a project guy, but could develop into something special with an RKG attitude, high motor, and exceptional quickness. Watched some game film of his, and it's hard to tell much because of who he was playing, but he looked quite good.
I hate doing the 7th round picks, because honestly, who knows. I made this draft in hopes of A) replacing the key guys we lost (I think we will be find at LB if we get McClain back, White I think will replace Moore quite well (though I would be opposed to signing someone, quite possibly Moore) as well, and Abraham will replace Spencer and Mosley will replace Melton). So tell me how crazy I am, and how John Abraham is just an over the hill DE who should just retire LOL, Mosley will never replace Melton, etc.
