My view of next year’s Cowboy draft

1. First and foremost is Romo’s replacement. However, my prediction in another post is that the Cowboys will finish with the 30th pick overall. My question to the draft gurus is who would be there at number 30 and be the next Romo, Roger, Brady, or Luck? By the way the post on “Building The Dallas Cowboys Roster: 2016 Quarterback Prospects” I found to be informative.

2. My second draft choice is to find McFadden’s replacement

3. My third draft choice is nose tackle.

4. My fourth and last draft choice is a special teamer who will turn around the group that causes the Cowboys to miss the 2015 Super Bowl!

I am with you on a QB replacement pick up.
But I will not reach for a pick.
Depending on how the season breaks we go that way in the draft.
It has done the Cowboys well in the past 5 years.

Ill flip 1 and 2 and 4 and 3 so my priorities would be:

1. RB capable of being the GUY and replace McFadden after his 2 year contract.
2. QB to eventually replace ROMO..
3. Special Teams ACE WR/KR (We also just paid Beeszz, so might be able to afford Williams when his contract is up in another year)
4. NT team for what ever reason is in LOVE with Hayden.

New England lost their pick so the 30th would go to the Super Bowl loser.

For starters, you spelt 31st wrong :)

Second, finding Romo's replacement should not be the priority. Everyone says this every draft and quite frankly, every draft they would have been wrong. Even had we drafted Russell Wilson in 2012, he would be entering the final year of his rookie deal and yes as a back up QB he would have had tremendous value and obviously worth the pick, however he would not be Romo's replacement because he would almost assuredly leave at the end of the season so he could start somewhere.

I also would not prioritize a RB. Typically, good ones fall in the draft and this last year was the exception, not the rule. It may not be this year, but I'm confident that a really good one will fall in our laps in round 3 or so. Obviously if it's a guy that we really like, I take him earlier if need be, but I don't feel the pressure to reach for one.

Don't hold your breath on a NT. I think we'll know soon, but I think Davon Coleman and Ken Bishop will be the NTs going forward.

What kind of special teamer are you looking to draft? I don't think our return game will keep us from winning, maybe the coverage teams, but I think once the core group of special teamers get more practice together we'll be fine. Either way, you don't typically draft a guy for his ability to cover special teams. Because of the size of college rosters, starters don't typically play special teams (even though it would help them stick to an NFL roster) unless you are talking about KR/PR.

all of the OP thoughts are clear thinking
I ask who are we going to lose in the next two years that need to be replaced
because of contact values are under performance?
We're young so this go around age might not be so critical

Next year looks like a strong tier 2 QB group. Alot of Bridgewaters and Carrs

I want one of the top OTs. I want a workhorse RB. I want a QB, who can be a quality backup to Romo. I want one more quality DB. I want another mid-round steal at LB, like Holloman, Hitchens, and Wilson. I want an absolute freak KR/PR (I do not care if he is a subpar WR, RB, or DB). As long as he is a major threat in the return game, that will pay huge dividends for us going forward.

Ezekiel Elliott and Derrick Henry are my number one targets. But I still go BPA regardless of position.
No reaching and no trading up unless a player you really like gets within your draft slot range.

Elliott is awesome. I want him in Dallas, too bad he is a top 10 pick.

If Gurley or Gordon don't do well this year.. RBs won't go high in the draft for a while.. Copy cat league.. My .2

Give me Kessler or Kiel late in round 1. 5 year contract meaning you can sit them for 2 years behind Romo and have 3 years at a rookie salary. 5th year option on a late first isnt much

Booker in round 2

I'm really not ruling out any position, but I doubt they draft an OT early unless Free is a complete train wreck and Chaz Green shows nothing what so ever.
